Ah, come on. I would at least finish the install, drive it around for a while and then uninstall it. You have done too much work. Wouldn't be able to live with myself if i just gave up now.
BTW, I will be doing this in decemeber possibly and want more help. LOL!

I've done 3 T-56 swaps in thirdgens, one of them my own car that has had the 6-speed out twice. 1 T-56 in a LT1 car and 1 T-56 in an LS1 car. NONE of them would go in the last 1/2 an inch I wiggled, jacked, swore, punched, and finally wept. 2 of them I did with my good friend who is a great mechanic. Anyways on all the T-56's I've done we use the bolts to suck up the gap, just did it very carefully and only a half a turn at a time just remember to go around like your tightening lugnuts and it goes together rather easily barely any force at all. All cars saw endless beating never made any noise or had any problems at all.
here's the list of cars with approx hp and times in the quarter:
1983 Z28 406 T-56 12-bolt 12.2 @ 117 (mine)
1986 IROC stock 305 15.8 @ 92
1988 IROC 350 about 350 hp ran 13.5 @ 105
1996 LT1 WS6 13.7 @ 103
2000 Z28 13.6 @ 109 (terrible driver he is)
Anyways if it was my car I would use the bolts before swapping a th-400. DO you know anything about that transmission? You know your going from a dual overdrive standard to a non-overdrive auto right? Your going to need a new tranny x-member, driveshaft, some way to mount the torque arm. Not just an easy swap we wont get into the computer reprogramming you might need as well.

I would keep trying. I had a th400 in my previous camaro with a 3000 stall and 3.73 gears. That really made me love my six speed. The launches in the auto were fun but sucked really bad in the highway. Dont give up man.

I just did an ls7 clutch swap in my car. I had to pull it up the last 1/4" with the bolts. It went in easy with the bolts. Everything works great. Just had to make sure it was straight and pulled it in evenly.
