Default 1000flywheel hp-T56?

I'm asking because I've searched and gotten mixed results. The figure of 700rwhp came up a few times when I searched but I also noticed a couple cars running 8's with the T56 trans.

Is it possible to build the T56 to handle 850-900rwhp? If so around how much would it cost? If not I'm guessing my only options would be a G-Force trans or a TH400? I really don't have the money for a G-Force trans and I don't like the idea of no OD and the time/money it would add to my build to do a TH400 swap. If this was a track only car I would deffently put a TH400 in it but I plan on driving this car on the street a good bit as well as taking it to the track a couple times a month.

I've been working on this car for around 2 years now "saving money for the past 4 years". I've finally got things comming together pretty nicely. Got the engine running a couple weeks ago but the trans won't let me shift from 1st to 2nd at high RPM's. I never expected the stock T56 to hold the power I plan on making but I figured I would at least get to play with it for a while before it took a crap on me.

I've already bought and installed a new Spec stage 5 clutch, Mcleod hydraulic clutch line, PTS custom drive shaft to connect the T56 to my new Moser 9" that has 3.73 gears. I'm guessing that gear ratio wouldn't work with a TH400, the drive shaft is probably the wrong length and I would loose a good bit of money if I tried to resell the clutch with 1000 miles on it. I guess what I'm getting at is that I want to get the car up and running ASAP while spending the least amount of money on a reliable setup. A TH400 swap is sounding like a good idea to me except for the fact that I have already spent a good bit of money on this T56 setup and I really want to see what it is like with a standard trans before I spend the time, money, and effort to do a TH400 swap.

I made 922rwhp through my STOCK 6 speed with a Mcleod twin disc clutch.
I had no problems out of it. I did alot of roll racing with as well! The most I made through the 6 speed was 1089rwhp!

I ran 500 rwhp on my stock T-56, stock driveshaft, and Moser 12-bolt on sticky drag radials for almost two years.

Then I ran 700 rwhp on the same stock T-56 for another year... Many rolls and a couple of digs on sticky DR's.

Finally, I sold my stock T-56 in perfect condition for $1k. I put in a Sixspeedsinc stage 4 T-56 w/larger output shaft and heavy duty driveshaft a couple of months ago.

With what I got selling my T-56, the new one cost me a little over $1k. I think I paid more for my Textralia Exo Skel clutch than the tranny!

My old T-56 that came out still shifted like new...

Wow, very nice. If your stock one is holding up to over 1000hp than I would think a built one would last a while at 850. The only problem is I plan to get the car hooking up pretty hard at the track and the car probably weighs 3800 pounds. I'm sure that is a good bit more stressful than roll racing. TBQH though it has been so long since I've been able to drive the car that I wouldn't mind if I was limited to roll racing lol.

Good info. Could you PM me about that stage 4 trans? About how much did it cost? Does it shift real smooth?

Yeah, I knew this thread wouldn't be liked when I made it. I really want to hear from people like HUNTER02SS and bboyferal though. Doing a search will have you believeing a stock T56 would come apart the first time you hit it with 850hp.

didn't rockland or some company make a 1000hp t56 a while ago? seems like i saw it advertised in the back of a car magazine.

and they talked about it on HORSEPOWER TV (yeah yeah...i know)....

it was in the back of an old CHP or something.

I would not count on a stock T-56 holding 800 RWHP let alone a 1000 for very long. I think that is a fluke. You are probably looking at needing a face plated T-56 to hold that power "reliably."

LOL, it's not recommended to run 800 hp on a bone stock T-56, but they're not necessarily going to immediately explode either.

If they're raced hard (high hp, slicks, etc.), then the truth is the built ones will last longer but not by much... They'll pop too.

yes, because after all, you are still on the stock gear set.

Here's what you need:

http://www.rsgear.com/transzilla.asp

Rockland is quality stuff...and they have great customer service. BTW, HP/TQ ratings mean almost nothing. There is some guy's one here that have run 1100+ HP through mildly modified T-56's with no problems. Of course, it also has to do with how much the car weighs.

Those Spec 4 rebuilds from Six Speeds Inc. are listed at $1950 and Spec 4+ rebuild listed at $2250 on their site. Both prices say that they are including the $500 core charge.

Well, like most nice pieces in the automotive world...there is always a down-side. Shipped to my door, mine cost a little over $8800. I could have bought a clutchless Liberty 5-speed for that. Keep in mind...they have several gear-sets that are available, with or without synchros, and HP/TQ ratings mean next to nothing.

I won't give out too much info...but look for UR's 7.98 1/4 record for a 6-speed to be blown away. Soon.

Wow, that is one expensive trans. I think I would do a TH400 swap before I paid that much for a manual.

People who pay that much money, do so for a purpose. He is going for the 6-speed record.
