T56 Skip Shift Solenoid Delete Plug
This is something I kinda engineered based on a little research..thanks to Amber as Six Speeds Inc for the CAGS Solenoid pics BTW.
I found that the Thread Pattern for the CAGS Solenoid was M20X1.5mm..found out as well that thread can be found as an Oil Drain Plug that is currently on the shelf at the local Orielly's. The Vehicle that uses that particular Drain Plug is a 1983-1986 Plymouth Horizon, 1.6l 4 Cyl.
After getting the pics of the Solenoid I found that the Threads were alot deeper than the Drain Plug. The biggest part that was holding up the Plug from going deeper was the Flange on it. I took out the good 'ole Dremel and took care of that. A little RTV and some Teflon Tape, I should be good to go. It's going to go in deep too..so hopefully it will seal itself with the part that I ground off..
Skip Shift (CAGS) Solenoid..
Oil Drain Plug with Flange ground off..
I figure this will look better on the side of the T56 than the un-used Solenoid..

I did the same thing on mine, deleted the CAGS with HPtuners and removed the solenoid since it was just there in the way.

I did this myself awhile back, but only posted my findings on the conversions board... didn't want to double post.

Has anyone else just modified the CAGS solenoid to create a plug that fits correctly. I have the oil plug and it is to short to thread in far enough. Plus, it is designed to work with a gasket, so you need the shoulder. Here are a few photos of the solenoid.
I cut the hex section 1/2" up and removed the solenoid. Cut off the inside shaft and tack over the center hole to seal it. The cap is not required, but it looked good.

...the PO must have installed a skip-shift solenoid.
Delete the CAGS with software will turn off the light.

it is just hard to believe that lowes or HD doesnt carry a brass or aluminum plug that would fit into the CAGS hole. maybe even a reg bolt. i sure you guys have done research and thought about this already

I spent at least a full day searching the net and contacting specialty fastener companies.
The only other application (currently commercially available) for that thread seems to be oil pan plugs and the length of these is at least 1/2" to short to be sound. Please let me know if you find one that doesn't come with a one off price tag.
