It's good to see these posts about SPEC clutches, because at the moment I am looking at buying a SPEC 2 for my car.

I'm on my third Spec clutch. I got over 40,000 miles out of my Spec 2, and gave it a massive amount of abuse. I only replaced it because I was going to a Spec 5 with my new 408. It's been said before Spec probably makes more LS clutches than all the other mfrs combined, so it stands to reason there will be more failures.

seems to me like the more abuse that they take, the longer they last ,lol. Maybe they really don't like to be slipped?

stage 3+ and spec steel flywheel and it grabs and shifts like butter after i got my DRs and finally got a chance to drop it hard from a stop, i can definitely say that spec has my business as long as i have my car.

Seems as if SPEC is really a hit or miss.

I bought the car with a SPEC 2+ in it. I talked to the owner who installed it and he confirmed the millage (about 3,000) but it broke about 200 miles later. Maybe a bad install, who knows.

It is good to know there are people that have had good experiences with them. I'm just not one of those people.

Just about any racing clutch does not want to be purposely slipped. If it is slipped, massive heat is generated and then the friction material wants to break down and the flywheel gets glazed. This causes even more slippage and then eventually failure.

Performance clutches can handle the normal street driving and mild slippage associated with them, but if you launch hard and bog the motor, then stab the clutch to hit the powerband then it wont last long. These clutches want to be dumped and not modulated, or purposely slipped.

I believe that Spec is a good problem with a bad rap from people who abused the product and trie to use it "out of bounds".

FWIW, I just smoked the clutch on my new '09 Vette trying to get the front wheels up on top of 3 2x12's to change the oil for the first time. From the smell you'd think I was trying to do a John Force burn out. Clutches are a wear item and the more often you abuse them the more often they will get fkd up.

I have had a few Spec clutches now, and have absolutely no complaints. I am happy to see positive feedback for them.

Yeah, I have a Spec 2+ right now and I have nothing but good words to say about it. I will definately be looking into another Spec when that time comes!!!
