Shifter Shakes in 3rd Gear
I have a 2000 SS and i noticed that when i shift into third and accelerate, i can see the shifter shake a bit.
the weird thing is that when shifting into third, it doesn't feel like i throw the shifter as far as i do in any of the other gears. it feels like it goes about 80% of the way in. i can't push it any further.
but as far as this shaking problem goes... if i i put light pressure on the shifter as if i'm going to take it out of gear, i can really feel the shaking. it feels like i can feel the gears meshing roughly. so i can't help but think that it never goes all the way into third gear.
is there an adjustment for that or is something wrong with the fork or synchros?
thanks

Shaking has nothing to do with it going all the way in gear or not . If its not all the way in gear , it will spit it back out when you let off the clutch . I would bet that the shifter shaking is probably from your style of driving and lugging the car . Try shifting the car at a higher rpm and see if it still does it .

I have a feeling it's the trans mount. The whole shifter seems to move up and over to the right more than it should in lower gears when I get on it.
Is there a definite way to check if the trans mount is busted, or should I just go ahead an replace it anyway?

might as well replace it. The mounts are cheap and easy to change. You can get an Energy Suspension poly mount for like 20 bucks at Byunspeed, and Autozone carries them for like $25 and you dont have to wait for shipping.
The reason I know is because I had the same symptoms and had to do the same thing

Yeah it is weird that it only does it in third.
Does it matter as far as what trans mount brand to go with?
I see Prothane everywhere, and Energy sometimes.

Engery Suspension is the brand. Its a poly mount. It doesn't matter what brand, Energy is just popular and you can get it local.
Tq arm bushing wouldnt be a bad idea too...its a little harder than the tranny bushing though

I may be confused here, but as for trans mount bushings, does it affect your car's NVH at idle?? I know that putting in solid motor mounts will pretty much kill your daily drivability, but new poly trans mount bushings should be like stock, right?
as for the OP, please let us know how it goes! thanks all

when i did my trans swap and headers a few months back i used poly motor mounts and used a stock trans mount. tranny mount had to much play and the shifter would bounce everywhere. i didnt use a poly trans mount because i read it would be harsh. this past week end i said **** it and put in an ES mount because my stocker was trashed and it was only 20 bucks. shaved off the bumps and didnt use the preload plate. man im glad i got one. so much better and no more vibration then i had which was min. actualy i think it fixed abit do to the old sagging mount causing my pinion angle to be off. sounds bad *** as well. BUT, im not sure how a poly trans mount would fair w/ stock motor mounts. somthing to think about.
