Default Launch rpm for stock SS T56 on MT's??

Ive had my 2002 Camaro SS LE out to the dragstrip twice, once with street tires and once with MT ET Drag Radials. My best 60' on street tires was at 2k launch rpm, a 2.17 60'. Well I ran a best of a 2.10 60' on the MT's and that was launching around 25-3000 rpm. The engine bogged, Im not dumping the clutch, more of a squeezing action rolling into the throttle at the same time as releasing the clutch. This is the stock 34k mile clutch too.

The engine bogged out every pass on the drag radials with 24 psi in them. I ran a 13.39@105.19 mph though. I think with a nice 60' I could rock this thing into the 12's. Its an all factory Camaro SS and the only mods are HP tuning by me and the DR's. ANy advice would be sweet!

If that car hooks and you put in more than 4k rpm into that launch, you could POTENTIALLY grenade the rear. 10 bolts live off a prayer and traction on the launch plus the weight of the car plus the power usually mean its end...

Yeah, maybe we'll just stick to street tires lol. I may be selling the car anyways and dont wanna be beating the crap out of it.

I never drive this thing hard either, aside from the 2 dragstrip trips in the last 3 weeks. I have a Turbo Firebird that gets that duty!

Try whatever the tires will hold but my 29K mile stock clutch often slipped in 3rd and fourth if I slipped it at all off the line. (I was trying to save the rear). good luck
I just put in an LS7 clutch so I am curious how well that will work.

The only thing you need to worry about is breaking your rear if it's still the stock 10-bolt, but in terms of your best launch RPM, bring it right up to about 4500 and quickly slip the clutch (don't dump it as it will spin, but if you go too slow you'll burn your clutch up quick, especially the stocker). Those tires should handle it no problem if heated up correctly and you should be seeing 1.8 60's without issue. After trying this once, you may want to try a little higher or a little lower depending on how it handles it, but you'll probably find your best spot right in that range. Good luck and post up some results.

a good launch is around 3500rpm on the stock rear without destroying it.

Drop the PSI on the MT's down a little bit..

On the Street Tires I would say around 18psi, the MT's at about 12psi. This will get a good bite on the Tires so you can play with the Clutch and find a good grabbing RPM.

Don't blow the 10-bolt though, them things are a tickin time bomb..

Yeah, Im still running on 24psi. Ive had a best 60' of 2.05 launching around 3500. I just got back from the track and ran a new best of 13.21@105.38 on a 2.07 60'. Im happy with that, still room for improvement though.
