Do you notice it in Reverse? Did anything happen during the drag run just prior to you hearing the noise? Does the fluid look burnt?

Could be a bearing going bad on the extension shaft (5/6/R) that is free floating in 1-4, but has some tension on it in 5/6 ?

Do you have to go into 5th on the drag strip? The extension shaft is a weak link on the non-viper T56s..

Do you have phone service? I only ask because it should be the first thing you'd do in a situation like this instead of posting a thread on the internet.

Yeah...I know, I know. I'm a dick. But do you really expect prompt service in a public forum? Every time I've called Amber, she's been more than helpful.

How much oil do you have in it..when it gets low that tends to start symptoms like that..

A noise from lack oil would get louder as the speeds increased and would go away in 4th gear unless it was the output shaft bearing (which I highly doubt) . If the noise is there with the clutch pushed in , its probably something in the clutch area or the pilot bearing . Do you hear anything when the car is running but in neutral ?

In think you are hearing the bronze pads. Especially since 5/6 it isn't there. You could also be hearing clutch noise. The bucking isn't tranny related but clutch related. I would change the transmission fluid and use REDLINE D4. It is a little thicker and helps with the pad noise from what we have seen.

Call me monday and we can talk more.

Thanks,
Amber

I have to agree with the source on this one. Pilot bearing would be the first thing to check. The other thing I would do today is take a look at the fluid. Don't be alarmed if you see a little bronze in the fluid as that is just break in on the pads. You should use 4 quarts. It could be throwout bearing also. Bronze pads would do exactly what you describe and will get better with more break in.

How does it drive? Go into gear fine? If so it is unlikely transmission related.

Thanks,
Amber

Default Hey Amber!

First of all Amber I hope didnt mad because i posted on here before talking to ya ...... Just need something to do this weekend thought the guys would have some insight on it..... If i cluth in it wont make a sound . It goes into gear fine reverse is sometimes a pain in the ***. And once in a blue moon 3rd grinds just a touch before going in ...... I will stick some good fluid in it and go from there .....
Its just a really loud almost alternator sounding wind that you can here at the shifter If i had my hand on it and was changing gears you can feel when it doing it along with here it . It does make the sound when shifting in to 5th and 6th but i think since the rpm is low you just cant hear it aswell.
