Ls6 vs. Ls7?
So, I've been in college for a couple weeks now, and about a week ago my clutch started to slip under heavy acceleration. I've looked around and found that pretty much everyone says to get an Ls7 for a relatively stock (lid and catback) car that a DD. But I've checked the forsale section and found some relatively cheap Ls6 clutches for a few hundred bucks cheaper. So my question is, for a cheap college student, would the Ls6 hold up fine, or is my money better spent on the Ls7?

If your just having fun from time to time, and dont plan on any moderate power and no drag strip use, then a cheap ol LS6 will be fine. If you plan on any more mods in the near future with drag strip trips on slicks, then get the LS7. Mines taken a 150 shot off the line on 28in ET Streets and hasnt slipped at all. To me the extra couple hundred is worth it.

Depends on what you are doing with the car. I had the LS6 clutch in my car for years. It is fine on a stock or mildy modded car. And then the slave went the last time I upgraded to the LS7 clutch. And that has been surviving DD duty now with my turbo's. So either would work, just depends on your budget and plans for the car. And if it is slipping now, chances are your slave is worn. Plan to replace the hydraulics when you are in there to prevent issues down the road with your new clutch.

I probly won't be adding any mods to the car anytime soon, but still think I'll go with the Ls7 just to have it. Now since it started slipping I haven't driven it at all. I've got about a 4hr drive home so hopefully it'll make it, and seeing that it's all freeway that shouldn't be a problem right? And (Hugger 7) I haven't driven my car since it started slipping and my car only has about 72K on it right now. I know everone says to replace it while you have the tranny dropped, but do I really need it, or is it one of those "better safe then sorry" sort of things?

I have had 3 clutches in my car. They all had to get replaced because the slave failed on me. Seemed to go every 30-40k miles. First time happened under warranty so went from the original 99 to the (01-02 aka LS6 clutch). Warranty covered the slave and I had to buy the clutch. This last time I upgraded to the LS7 set-up and did all new hydraulics again. It is definitely a better safe than sorry thing but there is also a good chance yours is slipping because the slave or master is shot.
My friend had a new clutch installed on his car and a month or two later I had to help him replace the slave because it wasn't working right. So in my experience it has been better to replace the hydraulics while you are doing the clutch.
