Description:

Before I start this thread I want everyone to know this motor is not for everyone, some will say its not worth the money and some will say it can built in their garage for less. These ppl truly don't know what it cost to make this kind of horsepower!

When I was building this motor I originally wanted the highest horsepower N/A motor I could still drive anywhere on the street. Which is exactly what Tony gave me. The plans have changed drastically with the car and I've went to a solid roller lsx 427.

If you click the link there are a tons of pics of the motor, unassembled and assembled. I put the motor in Camaro and it made 667hp and I'll have to dig out the tq. That is to the tire, through a m6 and fab 9. All these numbers that are shown the car was on e85, and probably could have been run on 91, with a less aggressive tune. I took the car to the track and ran 11.19 @132mph with a 2.10 60ft. That was no two step, line lock nothing, just me saying here I go. It also ran 163.8 mph at shift sector at coalinga airport. My car weighs 3400 flat without me in it, so maybe 3560lb race weight. Now to the specs of the motor.

454 CID shortblock consisting of the following
Darton sleeved LS2 block with internal oil passages ported
Lunati 4340 non twist forging crank with 2" rod journals
Callies Compstar H-Beam rods with 2" journals and ARP 2000 bolts
Wiseco lightweight custom pistons with .043 rings (Total seal), gas ported and skirt coated as well
Melling high volume pump (ported as well)
Comp Cam 251/265 on a 113 + 2
ATI Harmonic balancer hybrid design (steel hub and aluminum shell) FBody offset / 10% Underdrive
FBody pan fitted with Improved Racing internal sump baffle
Johnson Short travel with axle oiling HR lifters

Engine Top end
MMS 265 LS7 heads CNC ported and hand finished chambers, bowls and short turns (also upgrade full hand finished exhaust), hollow stem stainless intake valves, lightweight solid stem exhaust valves, PAC 1207 springs and PAC Ti retainers. Milled to achieve 12.75 to 1 CR (E85 or Race gas application)

Yella Terra Ultralite rockers 1.8 ratio P/N 6754
Manton custom length pushrods 3/8 diameter X .095 wall thickness
Rollmaster single roller timing chain set "Red series" with higher quality JWIS chain and OEM LS2 style chain dampener
MSD LS7 intake ported and optimized for MMS 265 heads / Stealth upgrade performed to the cover (logos removed), new LS7 fuel rail installed with customer supplied ID1000 injectors

Now on to the price. I paid 25K for the motor and the intake. I think added all my covers and throttle body. Which is still all on the motor. I would like to sell this as a complete motor, intake to pan. That means everything, intake, throttle body, injectors, wiring harness, fbody 411 m6 ecu. All you would really need to do is add accessories, and install it into a 4th gen. If you are interested in buying it without the intake, rails, and injectors. We can figure out a price. I have 1500-2000 miles on this setup. I know I'm not going to recoup all of my money invested into the motor, but I am not disparate to sell it. I have no problem leaving it storage, and putting it my 69 camaro when I'm ready.

Asking price 20k

That's a hell of a motor. I'm curious as to why it only trapped 132? Even at a 3800lbs race weight, I'd think that motor would be much closer to 136-137. Or does it weigh a lot more than that?

honestly at that time it weighed a little more, cause when I got back from the track, I took out the spare tire, back seats, and some other stuff, than had it scaled. It also had a 4.33 gear in it, and my launches did this thing zero justice. I can tow the gears but never actually launched the car or even didn’t a burn out in it. Me and tony both agreed it had more in it. I switched to a pro radial, added a two step, and a line lock. The plan was to make it back out there in May, but than I wanted much more power. I roll race a lot more than drag race. Yes probably because i don’t have the drag racing experience.

Jake,

Good observation......let me help you with more of the critical details that have been omitted....with Eric (the OP's) blessing I do this btw....LOL (we chatted yesterday on the phone for a bit)

First off when Eric said he had "very little drag racing experience".....a better description would have been NONE......with the exception of the results he quoted here....his first day at the dragstrip

In fact his first pass that day was only 128 MPH so he made big strides as he got a few more passes under his belt the one and only day this car ever saw a dragstrip with my 454 in it.

Another oversight (perhaps even larger than the lack of experience) was when and where he ran the car. Happened to be May at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.....yes the ambient temps that day were a touch over 100 degrees and yes the physical altitude of the track is almost 2000 feet above sea level.

I did a quick D/A calculation based on the actual information from the day he raced and it looks like he was running the car that day with a D/A of 5200 feet !!

Im extremely confident with a proper burnout and more driving experience myself or any other good driver could have improved on Eric's results that day....the guy was a Dragstip newb so not a stretch and if you were to only assume average conditions in air quality at a different track closer to sea level in much cooler weather (lets say a D/A of just a 1000 feet above sea level) that would add another 4 MPH at a bare minimum to the results.

The car was 3650 race weight btw but now knowing more of the big picture (a first outing to the track in pretty horrid conditions), I think the numbers better represent the true potential of the engine.

Put this engine in the hands of someone more experienced who is lucky to live in an area that sees close to zero D/A or negative D/A in the Northeast and look out!

I always say track results are a poor barometer of an engine's performance and this is why.....without knowing the talent of the guy driving and having a complete picture of the Density altitude, wind and other pertinent weather conditions how can you possibly evaluate what was really accomplished

Things that make you go hmmmmmm

I hope some of you found this post beneficial because it took way too long for me to gather all this info and lay it out in a coherent (hopefully easy to read) post......LOL

Just another "night" in the office....catch you guys later

Regards,
Tony
