i don't really know a whole lot about camcorders but out of those 2 i would choose the mini dvd recorder. personally though i would look for a camcorder that has a hard drive or a memory card slot. those dvd's and mini cassettes get expensive and each one only holds 30 minutes of recording.

ok, i looked at bestbuy and it looks like they are 60 minutes but it also depends on what mode you shoot in:
*60 minutes recording time in SP mode; up to 90 minutes in LP mode- dvc cassette
a 2 pack of tapes is around $15
i think the mini dvds are a better deal though. you can use them in your dvd player where as with the dvc cassettes you either have to have a cassette adapter watch through a vcr, or carry the camcorder with you and connect that to the tv.
also a 3 pack of dual-sided, 60 minutes on each side, mini dvd's runs about $30.

Always shoot at highest quality(shortest amount of time) as the high quality image can always be down-qualitied for use on web or ?,low quality images cannot be up-qualitied.
As far as mini-DV tape or dvd or hard drive, the choosing is yours because:
-hard drives never 'crash'
-discs never get scratched
-tapes never get broken
Whichever you choose, carry a spare battery and tape, dvd if applicable.

thanks guys. i really would prefer to have a camcorder that works off a hard drive but theyre just more money than im willing to spend for one seeing as it probably wont get used often enough to spend that type of money
you can play the mini dvds in a regular dvd player? what about an xbox 360? also do you know if you can record over the mini cassettes?
