OK well which is it? Regardless of which one it had in it, will a 4L60E work hooked up to a 93 LT1 motor? See I have a 1995 that was a V6 and I have a 1993 Z28 donor car, I am doing the swap now but I need a tranny and I want to make sure I get the right one.

700R4 / 4L60 / 4L60E / 4L65E
The Hydramatic 700R4 was introduced in 1982 for use in Chevrolet/GMC vehicles.

In 1990 the 700R4 was renamed the 4L60.

1992 was the last year of wide spread usage of the 700R4 (4L60).

1993 Camaro, Corvette & Typhoon were equipped with the last production 700R4's, also the last design change of the 700R4 with an added checkball to the valve body.

Same thing.

You do realize the 4l60 is not electronic.

I'm not an expert but on the 4L60e the computer controls the transmission the regular 4l60 works of a pump I believe.

Ya I have the whole complete wiring harness, computer, everything, I just unbolted the whole engine cradle and lifted the car off of it so everything is still 100% complete and ready to be bolted in to the 95 camaro.

OK man, You are confused...

Let me help you out. In the 93 Z28 the transmission is controlled by a cable to tell it when to shift. It's referred to as a 700r4. (or a 4l60) (No E at the end)
In 94 they went to a 4L60E, (E) standing for electronically controlled. That means that the computer (pcm) told the transmission to shift based off rpm and mph readings from the pcm.
Therefore, If your 93 Z28 had a automatic transmission in it, You will need a 93 or older transmission to bolt in there to make work with the 93 computer and wiring harness. Because the 93 computer and wiring harness did not have the plug to operate a 94-97 4L60E. Also 94 did not have pulse width modulation (only 95-97 did) So a 95-97 Transmission will not work in a 93 or 94, but a 94 Transmission will work in a 94,95,96, or 97 car.
So In SHORT, you will need a 700R4 (4l60) not a 4L60E.
* If there is a cable going into the passenger side of the transmission just behind the dipstick and the fittings for the lines, it's a 700R4.
IF you have a Grey connector, (with I think Green inside of it) sticking out of the transmission in the same passenger side area it's a 4L60E. And this will not work with your pcm and harness.

If you need any more help, pm me. I live in INDY!
I can help you out if you need it. Also I have a 700R4 in good condition if you need 1. And If you want to ever get 1 rebuilt I know a VERY GOOD Trans. Builder.

Good Luck

James

I get what your saying but the car is 95 Camaro. The trans is 4l60e and the motor is a 93 LT1. So as long as everything except the motor is newer than 94 shouldnt it work. He should be able to hook up the trans because the car should have the connector for the 4l60e.

I see what your saying too, But he's converting the v6 to the LT1. Therefore he is going to be using the 93 pcm and wiring harness. Which is setup for the 700R4. Not the 4L60E.
So either he will need to get a new pcm and harness (out of a 94+ car) to run the 4L60E or he will have to run a 700R4 to be a complete swap that will bolt in and work.
Unless he modifies the 93 harness using the v6 harness, and then he will only need a pcm from a 94+ car.

Although, The 4L60E that is in the V6 Car may NOT work b/c it's for a V6. Sometimes there are slight differences in the Transmissions.

James
