I've fixed quite a few that were ported with a dremel. Its not the right tool for the job even if the operator is pretty skilled with it. Too narrow of a sanding drum, too short/heavy/imbalanced and not enough torque. Every one I've seen was slightly out of round in the port work and left the metal slightly wavy where the ridge was removed. Sometimes you have to hit it with a smoother grit roll to see just how wavy it was left, but its there.

I am still learning a lot about mods and such...what does porting the TB consist of and what kind of gains does it produce?

Basically it smooths out the airflow into the intake. It's done my grinding away at some of the metal that restricts air flow in the throttle-body. It is definitely a worthwile mod and I've heard of an 8 horsepower gain. It depends on your setup.

See I just don't get how you can have gains of close to 10 when the actual throttle body opening is still the same size, but I suppose with the right set up its not unimaginable.

Again, it smooths out the airflow. Think of an aftermarket lid. The diameter is still no bigger at the MAF end but it's been proven to add horses because of the smoother airflow transition.

Actually, the throttle body is NOT the same size as the intake throat from the factory, that's the problem. That ridge in front of the blade reduces the throttle body's bore by 5mm. Intake throat is 75mm, and from the factory the TB bore is only 70mm.

Largest gain is actually from removing that ridge. The shaping and material removal I do to the rest of the bowl gives gains also by further opening things up and improving the shape of the bowl, but getting that bore opened up to the full 75mm is the biggest thing.

$65 for full port and bump stop mod. I also degrease the bore, blade, and IAC area and then media blast the exterior for a nice appearance.

Rolling Meadows. I'm real close to Woodfield Mall if that helps you reference it.

Could do it in one day if need be. Usually its a few days, but one day turn around is certainly possible if you need it.
