My vote is for no. As long as they cant "prove" that you drive around with it open you can tell them it's for track only. I say "prove" because you never know what the man can really do.... I would say "it's for track use only, thats my story and I'm sticking to it" if anything comes of it. If that doesnt work you could always try, "Come on! It's just a 3.8!"

i thought that it was illegal to not have cats on a car, any car, any time. so it is legal to run no cats at a strip? they would accept that?

As long as you don't have to deal with inspection and don't drive like a dumbass you should be fine.

It's like having Spot Lights on your 4x4. It's not illegal to have them you just can't turn them on cuz they are for "Offroad Use Only".

I'm sure the law is similar around here and I run mine open all the time. Really just depends on how big of a town you live in.

Technically, yes, it is extremely illegal to do anything that defeats or alters any "element of design" in regards to an emissions certified motor vechicle, especially something that can bypass a cat. Those are USEPA/federal regulations as part of the Clean Air Act. If you read and research the law, just about any modification you make to the powertrain, from the air filter to the muffler, could be considered illegal by the feds. Thankfully, they don't have the resources to enforce this on an individual level.

For pratical purposes you will be fine, so long as you don't have a strict visual inspection as part of your state emissions testing.

LOL, no it just sounds more imposing, for dramtic effect.

When it comes to emissions laws and our hobby, I say do whatever you can get away with. But it's always nice to know what laws you're breaking.
