[BlackLs1] 7:33 pm: Blackbird....i just want to let you know something. I spent many many long nights just thinking about what to do with the club when i left for bootcamp. Who to trust to carry the heavy load and who wouldnt let it fall, but i needed someone that had the same heart for the club as me. Everyong thought mike would get it...as well as him, but when i stated that you would be taking my place...not only did i lose a very good friendship with mike, but i realized how much the club thought about you..

I think he was wrong to expect it to take off right away. The big clubs he was talking about, I highly doubt they had hundreds of members in their first year or two, either. As they say, Mike's car wasn't built in a day.


I thought we had a good start. A couple hardcore meeting-attenders, a couple hardcore posters, a few jokers (and you'll have that anywhere). Maybe get a couple of the hardcores to agree to stick it out no matter what, always be there, because the outer people can't stick together if the middle falls apart. I think it would work again. I don't have a problem with the hanging out meetings, but like you said, there's a hundred things we could do: bowling, movies, heck, we could have our own poker run or something. Fall sightseeing cruise. Go caving. Holiday world. Toys for Tots. Have a "membership push" contest. Whatever. Here at work, we got ahold of the local auto parts store and "sponsored" a cruise-in show for like $100 and they supplied door prizes, DJ, everything else. And it doesn't cost that much to advertise, I got something like a thousand cards, couple hundred postcards, a bunch of magnets, and I don't think I spent over $50 even after shipping. I'd do that again in a heartbeat. Or just a classified ad in some local papers that simply reads "Firebirds/Camaros/Corvettes www.(yourwebaddress).com" or something, very cheap and might pull some attention. I've stated before and I'll say it again, I'm more than willing to donate money/time/prizes/find sponsors, whatever. I enjoyed the cameraderie we used to have. And Blackbird, you were a great prez. Don't let him get you down. You really made myself and the old man feel really welcome.

I haven't met any of you yet but you all seem like good people to me. I understand some of the issues you guys went through. Ten years ago when I didn't have a significant other and two kids I could say I'll be there but now it's definitly alot harder to get out when I want. The kids and my job take a very big chunk of my time. I guess it all just depends on your priorities. I'd be interested in participating in a club. I'll be honest up front and say I definitly don't have the kind of time to organize anything but I will help out as much as I can. If you guys are serious about getting everybody together and discussing it I'm game.
