I drive my V6 Firebird in the winter, as I have for the past 4 years too (no traction control). I don't do anything special, just make sure I have good tires and stay off it when it's really bad.
I don't think I would want to drive an LS1 in the winter though, would probably spin the tires way too much.

I've been driving 4th gens year round for 8 years now 7 1/2 of those in camaros with NO traction control. (lol and before that I was driving a fiero!) all I do is put on good snow tires (real snow tires! not heaps of **** cheap all season tires) and 100 lbs of weight in the rear. My current camaro has traction control and I find it soo sensitive in the snow it keeps you from going anywhere most of the time! so its off just about all the time. I've had no peoblems getting around at all though. Heck I've driven though snow 4" deep in my last camaro (which was lowered too) and didn't get stuck. I think most of the attitude about not being able to drive a f-body in the snow is because everyone is used to FWD cars and can't handle it when the tail slides around a little when you give it the gas in the snow in a RWD car. you want truly hardcore a buddy of mine drove his camaro in several winters in some serious deep snow with GSC's on it! all he ever did was drift, with the tires spining countersteering constantly, everywhere he went.

Spent six Winters driving the 'bird. Never missed a day of work, never got it stuck, and never added any weight either.....and my commute is 78 miles round trip.

I drove my 98 Z through this last winter and it wasn't bad at all except for the one snowstorm that we had. I put some new "winter" tires on it have about 100lbs of weight in the back of it. Just be smart and realize that it's not going to brake or take off as well as other cars that you're probably used to and you should be fine.
If you have the room to store tires I would run a set of spare rims and snow tires if you live in the snow belt. It's even worse if you have 17's or 18's on your car. Wider tires tend to be worse in snow because the tires don't cut through as well.

That is kind of what I did. I bought some 16 x8 Firebird rims and put some dedicated snow tires on for winter driving.
BTW the Blizzacks seem to be the most popular.
And, I had the V6 (3800) Firebird as well for 2 winters and it drove better in the snow than the LS1. Sold it last year and that is why I did the snow tires this year. Makes a big difference (the snow tires and thinner rim) if you normally have a summer tire on a LS1.

So I bought some last year. Now is the time to buy, they should be on sale now.
