Get a b-body for a winter car. Enjoy an LT1, cheap insurance, SAFETY, and they are tanks in the snow with a decent posi and tires.

Lightbulb B-Body...

Not a bad idea! I've always liked the 90's Impalas and Caprices. I might have to give that some thought. I have thought about getting an older f-body, but that might be a cheaper alternative. Not including gas money though, huh? I'm thinking an LT1 paired with a 4-speed auto wouldn't do too well in that department.

Both my cars get about 18-23mpg depending on what sort of driving. The 23mpg is what I tend to get on long highway trips which are usually summer fully loaded with the AC blasting and I treat tolls like the tree at the dragstrip. Better milage is certainly achievable with a little restraint on the right foot. The stock 2.93-3.08 gears are actually too low and something like 3.42s can actually improve milage under some conditions. The Caprice is lighter and mods like the headers could improve milage that is my best guess as to why the well modded car gets the same milage as the basically stock one.

A Caprice really isn't lighter than an Impala as a whole individual cars yes but an Impala is nothing but a dolled up Caprice. The Impala got leather and the wheels are very heavy two thinks which will bring them up a touch depending on how the Caprice you compare to is optioned. The Impala is so much a Caprice they are titled as Caprice/Impala and the only way a VIN can even differentiate is if you get a dealer to print out the option codes WX3 is the one code that takes a Caprice and makes it an Impala.
A friend who pulls weight from his Impala to race hits a raceweight of 4060lbs and he probably goes 190lbs. of that.

If you think 13.2 is quick for such a big car come on out to WIR this year, I hope to never again go that slow exept when I race the wagon shooting for 14s with that this year.
