Well it is a lot easier for long range providing you have the right light. You need to be comfortable with open before a scope in my opinion. Getting used to the movement is hard with a scope. A mm in movment of the barell and you are off by feet depending on range.

Scopes actually improve your lighting so you can see better.
I agree with learing to shoot w/open sights first. It will make you a better shot later, should you decide to shoot with a scope.
Movement of the barrel will through off your shot whether you are shooting w/open sights or a scope so that really shouldn't matter...you just notice that you move more with a scope
