Chris...sell it, no use having a fast car in this town....get a couple of dogs! What is wrong with your shortblock? Isn't that thing stock and low miles, and I know you drive like the biggest ***** in the world, so what happened???

Joe, come over to the dark side....I bet Graber will do so as well.....are his race trucks ready yet??? I wanted to see the nasty one at the track sometime this year!

Bent sparkplugs are usually an indication of broken ring lands in these engines. The longer you run it, the greater the chance that a piece of a piston will get wedged in where it shouldn't be, and crank the block. We've seen it happen twice. Bob

I echo Bob's sentiment. I've spent a long time in performance forced induction (grew up with/worked on the quickest/fastest/winningest Top Fuel motorcycle team in history), and have also torn down lots of 3800s with a touch too much boost put to them. I'd have to see the plug to be sure, but most likely you have a chip out of that piston.

With the makeup of the pistons in these motors, you can probably limp on it for a brief while, but if that thing gets spun hard, it's likely going to frag completely, and new pistons are cheaper then a new block. Sounds like a forged bottom end is on its way. I've got a nice collection of pistons with the same thing done to them hanging on my wall. (none mine, yet).

A compression test and a leak down test don't always show the problem.
I would pull the heads to see what is going on, no matter what, they have to come off. Something had to bent the electrodes, which is the key here.
I know it sucks, been there!
We only have one good engine available right now, and it is an LS6 that I am keeping for the Ferrari 308 that is in our showroom area. Bob

how fast you want it tore down chris. i hope you didn't bust any ringlands on a n/a motor, that would mean a very bad tune.

good thing about a bent electrode is that you know the piston is still in the motor!!!!!! The bad thing is that its time to spend $3000 on a stock cube forged shortblock!!! Start reading the for sale sections, or just bite the bullett and get a forged 416 cube L92 setup and call it a day, sell the nitrous and headers you got, get new headers, big stall, build the tranny, etc. About $25K should cover it. THEN when it breaks its real expensive!

I bet you can find a low mileage shortblock fairly cheap from some vendor, maybe even call LPE or have Joe ask Al if he knows of any take out LSx motors available.

If you're dead set against pulling the heads, a borescope can determine the asnwer as well.

Welcome to the 2nd motor club. Sorry it looks like you'll be dropping some $ in the motor. On the plus side, now is the perfect time to go with a great forged internal setup, or at least a nice big cubed setup. Either way, I would go with the aftermarket parts in your decision. You're going to be paying the same for laybor either way, you might as well get a big smile on your face from the extra power with go fast parts after the new motor, than be out thousands, and still have the same power level you previously had.

Just be thankfull your car is not silver or pewter. You'd be looking to spend a small fortune on a regular basis.
