Your IAT, MAP, and ECT sensor account for any temperature changes as well as pressure changes with the weather. I run a SD tune year round and my fueling never requires changes. The advantage of a MAF is you have a direct, but slower, means of measuring the air intake. SD is an instant calculation your not waiting for a wire to cool off so the fueling is there instantly instead of waiting for the MAF to catch up.

You need to have the timing added back to the tune if it really was tuned for nitrous, as they would have taken some of it out to avoid detonation. As far as the MAF I don't like to see any screens removed, it helps to keep the air flowing evenly over the wire. If you have seen it, it is not a standard screen it's a honeycomb looking one designed to even out the flow. If you want to make it flow better look at porting out the middle of it not the screens. Some get away with having no issues with the screen gone and some don't but I wouldn't risk it. Stay away from the SLP MAF as well since it has a resistor in it that tricks the PCM that makes it a pain in the *** to tune.

Advantage to the SD tune is your car will be more snappy with accelerating (since the fueling is almost instant) especially if it is a 6 speed. Downfall is the SD tune will not account for any compression loss due to wear and tear but it'll take a **** tone of miles for it to matter. Disadvantage is it's harder to get down so fueling is perfect. MAF will account for the compression loss but will be less snappy feeling but easier to tune.
So i guess i will keep the sd tune and just get my timing back.

Plus i will be going to pro dyno tech saturday maybe if they are able to get me on the dyno. To see what my numbers are without the newly freshed tune hopin for 420-430 hp

I didn't take it that way your cool lol. I've just heard that here and there about sd tuning. How are you liking the hp tuners? I've thought about buying it and just messing around with it on my car.

just ordered a set of richmond 4.10's anyone on here know how important it will be to get it tuned for them immediately or is it ok to wait for a little bit. Going from 2.73's should be a nice mod.

Are you M6 or A4? I'd assume A4 if you have 2:73 gears. If that's the case.. I think you're gonna really hate the 4:10's.

And to answer your question, you need to get it tuned fairly soon. Your speedometer will be off, your shift points will be way off.. you will hate it.

Definentely get the car tuned immediately. I went from 2.73's to 3.42's and the speedo was WAY off and it would bounce off the rev limiter. Not to mention you will be doing like 60 on the interstate and it will say your going 80-90 mph. The biggest I would go in an Automatic Trans. car is 3.73's but thats just me. However if you never see highway then 4.10's or whatever is fine! Just whatever you do, Don't do WOT with the gears til you get it tuned...

Good Luck

James

right on does anyone know anyone or usual rate for tuning for gears. I drive it from martinsville to greenwood alot but from what I read I wil be around 3k at 70 mph so im not to worried about it. I wouldve went 3.73's but I got a great deal on these. yeah Its an a4. you get a pretty good gain from switching to 3.42's?

Gotcha...

I noticed a BIG Difference with the gear swap. But I did lose Top end a lil bit. Now I have a hard time keeping the tires from spinning. LOL
With the 2.73's I'd hook off the line and then start to pull hard as I gained speed. I have ran down a few cars that had gears in them and that was when mine was 2.73's. Only thing I hate about 2.73's is that the car feels like a slouche out of the hole. But pulls Hard up top as you continue to accelerate.
My .02 is I love gears. The car feels so much more Peppy out of the hole. Dig racing is alot funner now. (Sliding Sideways)
If I had 3.73's or better I'd be screwed even worse though.
I know that Chad at Greenlight Motorsports in Kokomo can tune the car for you. He does an awesome job... If you need someone local (Greenwood) and ASAP DHeck is also a good guy.

HP Tuners is bad ***, I love it, lol first day I got it I changed my fan temps, speed limiter, and killed some codes. Don't get it though if your not going to stick with it, there is a large learning curve to it. I did about 3 solid months of reading before I got it and I still figure **** out daily on it. Some days it will **** you off bc you thing everything is perfect and fine but you can't leave it alone and throw off your tune. I started from scratch a couple times but now it's fueled perfectly and I know how much time went into it.

When I put in my headers the car felt like crap, felt slower and I was pissed but after the SD tune and adding some timing I can feel the difference. Just gotta get some $$ together for some dyno time to see my numbers.

Alex, your car was never slow....Just traction limited.

And I'm glad you finally got the hang of the tuning man. I'm proud of ya!
You need to come hang out with me and the Chuckster sometime man. Or go out to eat with us again. Don't be a stranger.
We was talking about you the other day. Oh And I thought that you were going to stop posting on here? Whats up with that? Lol!

^^ ******* other site is aweful slow with the tech part of it. They all just hang out in the lounge. So now I hang around here.

I work at 4am on the weekends now till 2 so the nights are out, only way to do it is during the day as I have a bed time now. That and I gotta scrounge up money for a house I'll hopefully be picking up here soon. If you guys make it up here we can grab some food but as for the next couple months I'll be stuck here eating peanut butter and drinking water till I get this **** done and over with. Garage will be nice but this **** is getting expensive. Next weekend I'll be off is on the 4th for my b-day.

And my car IS dogshit slow, will be till I drop the $$'s for the heads and cam, but I'll have a garage and another car running so I can take my time with it.
