To be honest, I think you would be extremely happy with a set of 3.42 gears, and a tune I think it would wake it up quite a bit. Also, don't be afraid to spray her with 125-150 shot. They love it. My LT1 put out 570rwhp on a 170 wet shot..
James- what did your bolt on LT1 do after we put the (although a bit rich) tune on it once we got the trans straightened out? Also what gears did the Formy have? I don't remember. Were they 3.23's?

273 and 342 gears are gay in a 4l60. should one engage the hassle of purchasing and swapping gears, get some 373s. speaking from experience...i had a 273 a4 car and obviously that sucked. i also have a 342 gear car (m6) and they suck *****, too.
swapping from 273s to 373s with no other additions gave me 2 mph. i thought it was a worthwhile swap. if i had it my way now i'd have a mwc 9" in the stick car with a set of 430s in there.
babbge: no shame in losing to a faster car. tiburon or not. with enough n2o an 87 escort would be afforded the ability to drag some ****, too. i'd guess your issues lie within the tune. a bolt-on car a4 car should trap around 110. what does yours trap?
edit: josh, that sounds good. where did you get the mufflers? also, i am a little disappointed that the car didn't do anything but hook in 1st.

2.73's in an auto makes em lazy... 3.42's in an auto really wakes them up IMHO. It makes all the gear shifts more firm as well bc of the larger gear. It's 1 of the cheapest and yet noticeable mods I always did to my cars when starting to mod them. Considering you are gonna pay 300-500 for a gear swap (3.73's or whatever with the install kit) or just buy a 6 speed rearend off someone which already has 3.42's installed it'll save you the time and hassle as well as some $ when it's all said and done. Not to mention there isn't enough gain to go from 3.42's to a 3.73 gear set unless you are making some good power. Sometimes more gear hurts a cars ET's and MPH.
I would honestly find a 3.42 rearend out of a 6 speed car for like 300.00 and switch em, you can always keep the 2.73's as a replacement if you ever break the new rearend, or you can always sell it to help fund the new 1.
They still sell for 100-150 for 2.73 rearends all day long. Just saying!
oh, and next time you race her, tell her DIG race only... You pick the spot, tell me wheere it's at, and choose your lane, and I'll "oil down" her lane before you guys show up.
Then we'll video it and rub it in her face that spinning aint winning.

i would leave the 2.73s, best way to get the rear to last till you can get a real rearend.
plus if you play on the street a 3.73 gear will make hooking a lot harder. there was a bolt-on camaro back in missouri running 7.6-7.8s with 2.73 gears and a converter.

edit: Im also with James on just finding a used low mileage ten bolt with 3.42's if you want to upgrade from the 2.73's. Should make for a nice cost effective upgrade.

wtf i had a 373 stock rear car with like 200 1.6x strip passes and lord know many street launches and it was fine. i sold the car with like 45k worth of abuse on that stock 10 bolt and it is still in the car to this day with prob double the abuse i put it through.
s
don't let your **** wheelhop and you're fine. can't you rookies pull that off?
edit: i was on a stock trans, too. transgo "full race/high stall" kit with a 4k stall. so there goes yalls theory out the window about the stock trans too. bitches.

Hmmm I remember My rear end with 3.42's and my 6 speed- it hooked and lifted the front wheels at the track.. James saw her, he knows..
Edit- Also I changed out the 3.42's for Richomond 4.10's after a lot of debate and wondering. After I did, I regretted doing so. Didn't make much difference out of the hole, only gave me 2 mph, time stayed the same, and it lost all its highway top end fun With a t56...

I went 10's on a stock 10 bolt with 3.42's and yet blew up 5 with my stock "bolt on only" LT1 car. Go Figure!!! You just never know about stuff when it comes to cars!
