I learned how to 'powershift' from the best.

Please, don't scare Roy. I have a 'good' time set up for us.

IL has never taxed me based on sale price, ever (unless buying from a dealer). When buying a used car from a private party, I just go to a currency exchange, pay a flat tax based on the year of the car (usually costs about $100 in tax) and that's it. I did this as recently as 2004 when I bought my '98. I never disclosed a sale price, and they never asked. I just paid the same flat tax that anyone would for any '98 car at that time.

Never once have I bothered with temp plates or any of that silliness. I just use a plate from a car I already own. I was pulled over once while doing this by a state trooper on rt41 near Lake Cook Rd., I had just bought a '71 Cutlass earlier that day and the plate I was running belonged to a totally different car (still in my name though). The cop questioned it, I explained and showed him my Bill of Sale. He said nothing more about it and I received no ticket or warning.

well, i stopped by the DMV. apparently the one by my house doesn't do anything with plates and they directed me to several others that could "possibly" help. too bad theres not enough time!

stopped by a currency exchange. what a bunch of idiots. i was trying to explain that i was picking up a car out of state and needed a temporary/in-transit tag. she kept asking if i had the title, i said not yet. then she asked if i had a loan on it

guess im going with the BOS and seeing if he will let me keep the tags on.
