I'm not a big fan of gear swaps for street cars running a 4L60E and the stock 10 bolt, unless it's a 2.73 car and you want to drag race primarily. 2.73s are great for street launches on Z-rated tires, and for general cruising, but they are lacking for dead stop launches on sticky tires. A stall will help big time, but still it's not the most ideal drag racing setup.

3.23s are a great all-around gear. You can see 1.5x 60-foots using them, and they're pretty strong in the 10 bolt with an A4 so long as you keep the wheel hop away. Going to a 3.73 isn't going to net you a whole lot for the cost and the downside of likey having some gear whine. 3.42 is really a total waste of time if you already have 3.23s, unless you've got an entire rear assembly from an M6 car to bolt right in without the labor time/expense of getting the gears installed.

The 4L60E has a pretty aggressive 1st gear ratio, so 3.23 works well with a 3500-4000 stall TC. I'd want more gear for a TH350/400 swap though, if I intended to drag race a lot.

Yeah the thing with the 3.42 is I can get it for practicly nothing if I want it since Im really not sure I want 3.73s since the gas milage since im on the highway quite a bit but I do 70 or under anyways so it wont hurt that bad since my trans am is not a DD. Im not in a hurry for any rear gear change as my 3.23s im happy with right now

Relocation brackets, sticky tires, and a little .... hope for rain to get it all in.....

Although tempting, the procharger would take a little too long to get running properly. Thanks for the offer.

lol i was kidding, you'd need a fuel system, etc, etc also or you'd blow it up the minute the blower ramped up. I run two external pumps, AN lines, big rails and 60 lb injectors with this D1SC unit.

I thought we get all the supporting mods with the blower. You know like the shortblock and the fuel system?

Goatchz, glad to hear the good news. I have never really heard much about cleaning the maf with any success, but they are sensitive little bastards and anything that you can get off the resistors makes a big difference. Plus $35 for a stocker is a nice deal in case it fails again.

TC, have you ran your car at the track with the new combo yet? You may want to sneak in some alone passes before putting any money down against the boss. a 4K stall and a 3.23 should work the best with a DR. Any higher gear and you stand a chance of spinning a DR and would need a better tire or suspension work. Plus 3.73 on the highway will be raise your cruising RPM enough to affect fuel mileage, then there's the cost and the possible gear wine from an AF gear set and also depends on who installs it.

I say stick with what you have, do some trial runs and see where you are on your Nitto. You can always practice different burnout and launch techniques. Falshing the verter may be better than a brake stall.

Yeah I knew you were kidding. You love that car too much to want to rip it apart for some schmuck looking to clip his boss. Thats why I respectfully denied...

Actually have never run a sanctioned drag race. Only been to the track as a spectator. So practice runs were already in my agenda. Figure out my holeshot and I think I will be all right. Have to get the nerves out anyways, wouldnt want a fucked up launch to cost me. The rivalry with the boss is nothing but friendly competition anyway. Just dont want to give him any bragging rights.

One of the cheapest and best suspension type mod ive ever done were some $60 air bags in the rear. It makes for a very even launch. I think i bought them at speed inc.
