Default police on my driveway- legal??

my driveway is about 150 feet long, and I got a ticket in the mail for no village sticker by my local police. My car is always parked by the house, facing the house, so there's no way the no sticker situation is visible from the street. Is a police officer allowed to go up my driveway to check this? This is in Hawthorn Woods, IL.

Do you ever drive the car, where they could have seen you out but not been able to pull you over for some reason? Could some pissy neighbor have complained about it and had them check it out? I'm no law expert but I'd imagine they could go in your driveway for some kind of "reasonable suspicion" kind of thing.

What kind of fines are you looking at?

the car gets driven, but is never parked in "public" in the village (our village has no retail, only houses). On the day they claim to have issued the citation, my wife came straight home from work at 9:00 PM and was not pulled over, so there's no way they saw it in the dark (our roads are all 45-50 mph speed limit) with her driving by.

Alot of towns run all the cars that are registered in that town and check if a sticker was purchased, most likely no one came onto your property.

That's how they get me. My car is kept in a garage and only drivin about once per month, there is no way a cop saw that I did not have a sticker. It's purely a revenue generating scam by the village.

A few years ago they passed a law that it was legal for police in illinois to go on private property to check for registration stickers.

What's the purpose of the sticker, anyway? Just to generate revenue for the village? are they expensive? (there are no villages out here in redneckland, so this concept is new to me)

.

My company vehicles are all registered in Orland Park. My actual shop is in another town.
They company trucks are never in Orland. Have not had a contract in the area in years.
They send me a bill every year for not purchasing stickers.
As mentioned, they are using computers to track you I'm sure.

Yep purely for revenue purposes. They want to suck us dry anyway they can. I think going on to personal property is ridiculous though. But I guess speeding tickets and registration is the only way cops get paid.
