Buy a car through AFEES?
I just found out today that you can order a car straight from the factory, with pretty good discounts. I was just wondering if anyone has done this, or has any advice?
Thanks.
Thanks.

My understanding is that you can only do it when you are coming from oversees locations, and they will have it delivered to the dealer closest to your stateside assignment.
I have not done it personally, but a very good friend did it back in the late 90's on an F350, he was very happy with the outcome. You can also order Harley's the same way.

You can do it while deployed or coming back, im not sure on all the details but my brother did this when he was stationed in iraq(got a realy good deal on a new chevy truck).
Id say its worth it if your about to go on a deployment to wait till then to buy the vehicle and have it delivered to where you want it.

I bought my first 4th gen from AAFES. I ordered a 93 but couldn't get it but I did get one of the first 94's. I ordered it the way I wanted it and it got pushed back by GM a couple of times and ended up going into the 94 production year. Then I got on a BMW kick for a while, for new cars, and AAFES didn't sell them. I've never heard anything bad about them but if you special order expect to wait.

I went to Osan TDY for a week and they sold me a car. Trust me, if you are active duty, they do not ask for proof you are stationed there. I had a 1998 Formula on order back in the summer of 1998 when GM was on strike. I ended up cancelling the order because no one knew when GM would start building them again. I found one through a friend in the states and paid sticker for it.
The cool thing is you can option the car just the way you want to. Don't have to settle for what is on the dealer's lot.

I used to get my military discount with my GM family discount but now GM doesn't do that.. its either one or the other. Pretty homo if you ask me.

if you buy a bmw in germany, they will ship it anywhere (not AAFES just straight thru the factory) i almost bought a truck thru AAFES before i left germany and it was rather cheap. They priced me a loaded ext cab 07 Ford FX4 for around 23 or 24 k, when i got here ford wanted 30. If i can trun back the clock i would have bought it.
I cant help you unless your in germany, in germany you just go over to the dealership on base by the bx and it takes maybe 20 minutes, boom.

BMW, Audi and VW are a piece of cake. They have dealers outside and sometimes on post that only deal with Americans and the prices are pretty good. Mercedes not as easy because of lack of dealers just for Americans, there are none that I know of that sell new cars. The German Mercedes dealers in the larger cities that have military have a US sales rep.

in addition to deployed (supposed to be 30days min), they have aafes dealers at most overseas locations. as previously stated, they really don't care though.
i wonder if they would up my star limit to put it on a card!

Are you at North Camp or South Camp? I spent some time TDY in the Sinai this past winter setting up some comms for TFS North Camp. I did escape to Sharm El Sheikh once or twice though.

OP39 is where it's at. Hot euro chicks with there tops off on the beach. We used to do dismounted patrols just to check out the ****. The red sea is outstanding for diving as well.
