civilian military base police
Hi everyone...I was in the Army for 7 years...E-5 Infantry..
Im now being offerred a posistion for a Navy Civilian Police Department..
At the same time I have also been fortunate to be very close to getting a job from the local city police department...
Whats the general opinion on the civilian base police?
At your installation do they patrol in police cars and give tickets ect. Like traditional police work or do they just stand gates ( stood gates in the Infantry and not very fond of it)
The city police are offerring around 40K per year and the Civilian federal base police are offering around 40K per year...But overall the benifits are a lil better on the federal side...
Sowhats your opinion of them and if you do/have done the job/worked with them ect. How was it..
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Camp Atterburry here has civilians on the gates (moslty pirior millitary) but the base is partrolled by MP's. I don't think I have ever seen a civilian cop on the inside of the base.
As far as I know the Armories are all civilian here in Indiana, the Air Guard bases and the AF reserve base here is all millitary.
There are a lot of jobs in the civilian sector and from what I have seen/heard they also have some pretty nice benifits and pay. I was going to apply for a few before I took this job. If something happpens with this job that were I will go. Only thing that sucks is the only buildings with A/C at Atterburry is the commanders building, and the PX.
I know all the silo bases are 100% millitary.

Wow....I suppose I am lucky then...
Here in hawaii at Pearl harbor ( the posistion they are offering)
I see them driving Impala patrol cars all over the base as well as off the base..They were a uniform that looks exactly like the city police I may be joining...They have weopons and a buddy who works their showed me his badge and credentials...
They have a contracted security called "hana" that works the gates ( also armed)..But the police do all the patrol..
the problem is that to me the pay sucks...
When I was an E5 in the army with 7 years in living off post and having 5 dependents ( wife and 4 kids) I was making 60K per year...This navy base police job is only starting at 38K per year...
I suppose I should feel lucky then since the bases your telling me about are all pretty much gate guards

Look into the benifets, some are hard to pass up, at least around here.

-BASE GS3 step 1 = 21.8K per year
-Then 33% more special Salary rate for being a police officer=28.3K per year
-then 25% Hawaii cost of living expense ( cola) = 35.5K per year
( 25% cola not taxed)
-Then due to not allowing us a lunch break we work mandatory 8.5 hour days and that .5 of an hour is considered time and a half over time and ends up being another 2,500 per year in mandatory overtime= 38K per year
Then you still have 10% night differential and 25% sunday premium and any actual overtime
So I guess it's not that bad but here in Hawaii a 10ft by 10ft studio in a crappy area will cost you 1K per month....
