well all the knowledge i have is from my last 6 years in... i highly recommend the altama with the ripple sole( soft on impact and always provided cushion during all our ruck marches! and normal daily use.
but i have the oakley boots that have 8" sides, and they are like walking on pillows- or better then wearing silk boxers!
i love them, if they make them in black you'd be set!

Out of all of the boots that I have used.... The best is BlackHawk Warrior boots.. That is all that I have been wearing since mid 2007... When I was in Iraq 08-09, I only rocked one pair of BlackHawk Warrior boots, and they held up the whole time. I did many patrols with them...

X2 on the Blackhawks and they have a 1 year warranty on them also. Bought a pair before this deployment, the stitching started ripping out, contacted Blackhawk, sent them a couple of pics and they sent me a free pair to my APO address free of charge!

I really like my newly acquired Converse boots. Pretty comfortable compare to my old batesvilles.

The reason for the desert tan is black will get picked up by nvg's

That said, i'm well over a year into a pair of Bates combats with vibram soles. Boot, ITB, RIP, BRC, and marksmanship school and they still look brand new

Belleville all the way. they offer plenty of diferent styles as im sure youve seen. just buy the pair that best suits your needs. and when they say water proof, they really are. (highly recommend that feature)

Anytime I went out, I used the old all leather field boots that were issued for YEARS in the Army. Failing that was the non-modded Altama jungle boots. Problem with the field boots is that they took forever to break-in. Jungle boots took a long time as well, but there was nothing better for going for ****** ever than them things. Good luck finding them nowadays.

Yes, saddle soap is made by Kiwi, amongst others, and yes it is THE greatest thing EVER for making leather soft and comfortable. It's such a wonderful thing that I use it and mink oil to clean and protect the leather seats, door panels, shift boots, steering wheel, and dash trim on my Grand Prix. Here's a link to Kiwi's products: http://www.kiwicare.com/US/Products/Insoles/.

As a medic, I feel like I HAVE to say this. If you are going to be going through ANY type of water do NOT get boots that have a "breather" hole in them. All they do is let in water when you go through deep enough water up to the hole. Then your socks get soaked and you end up with ungodly blisters and athletes foot. Guys want their boots to be cooler but never think about that. Get GREAT socks that will wick away the sweat and that is it.

Personally, I used the 8" Oakleys. They were awesome. Did a 20 mile ruck march, more than a couple 12 milers and many 8 milers on them and they were amazing. The only problem with them is they really dont have the ankle support a "combat" boot should have. Other than that they were a great warm weather boot.

I wear Corcoran Sage Marauders. But I wouldn't suggest them for any field exercises. Especially if it has to do with contact with the water.
