What boots are you running?
Hey guys, I'm going to be competing in a long distance (very long) tracking, map work, recon, rifle skills, competition (civilian) and obviously cannot do this in the usual Nike's. I've been meaning to pick up a pair of nice Mil spec combat boots like Altama, Belleville, etc. but practially everything they make it desert camo now. I want something in black or black/green and I need to hear from you guys about what styles (boot model #) in non desert color that you guys have had good experience with when humping it out in the terrain vs. the new trend of giving you SWAT style tac boots that look like they wouldn't last overland or off concert (maybe I'm wrong). Any advice on what to buy (links to said item would be even better), would be awesome, thanks guys!

I rock what the Marine Corps issues me (belleville) but there are also danners which have more arch support then the more common brands, and oakley also makes a good boot, but I have yet to see it in a non-tan color.
Sorry I don't have any links, I have never had to buy boots.

these bates are extremely light, they've stood up to a lot of rucking:

Altama jungle boots or Merrells. Both work well for moving with a purpose with a ruck on too. I prefer the desert jungles for the softer suede over the stiffer black and green ones but to each his own

Go to an Army/Navy, or surplus store, and get you some jungle boots. Very thin, and will last a long time. I have a pair that i wear daily, and have worn for a little over a year. 2 rotations, and a trip to jump school, which involved alot of running in the booooots.
i have the tan equivalent of jungle boots.

My father has some Magnum's (close to this but more plane http://www.workbootsusa.com/marellsttoe.html) and has had them since like the late 90's and have stood up to tons of maintenance abuse since then...
I have another brand of the same boot that is even more simple and had them most of the years I was in W-SAR.... they stood up to everything I could throw at them from ruck marches to thorns tearing at them moving threw the woods on land nav or on searches....... super comfortable and light weight..... they don't look the greatest now but the sole is not broken down and is in once peice.

BTW!!!
If you buy new boots, that are not broken in yet, buy some 'saddle soap'
It will be sold with shoe polish, its a 'KIWI' brand product IIRC.
Its in a teal, or light green can. That **** will loosen up the leather sooooo soft. Your feet will thank you!
I also prefer a light, thin sole

I just finally threw away my Blackhawk Desert Ops (they had served me well) which are available in black also:

They were very comfortable and had a great lug pattern on the sole.
I also really enjoyed my Altama Exospeeds (also available in black):

The Altamas were very light and easy to run in, but the sole is not as good in the mud as the Blackhawks.
I just took a field course, and my civilian instructor (who spends all day in the woods) swore by his Danners. He said that they were the only boots that consistently kept his feet dry, and we walked though a lot of water!

i used to rock some altama's. Damn comfortable.
My MOS requires steel toes at the shop, so i got issued these Wellco's. Once they were broken in, they're all i wear. Even on rucks.
I've had several pairs of redwing and wolverine steel toes in the past, and these feel as comfortable as a pair of multishox.
