The Reserves.
Has anybody else went from active duty Army to the reserves? I was a 19k in the Army for 6 yrs, then to finish my 8 I signed up for the reserves the only job they had was for a fueler. My unit is a QM brigade, and non deployable. No organization whatsoever. Only about 50% of the people assigned show up. All we do are boring classes, PMCS on shitty Humvees, its boring and I see no point. it also takes my whole weekend. I have been trying to get some travel time for my civi job so I can escape, but right now there isn't anything unless I want to go to Iraq for 2 yrs.

Same thing happened to me, but in the Navy. I hate the reserves, which is why I volunteered to get mob'd for my last year. 6 days for my contract to be up, 3 months left on my deployment.

I liked the fact that I was still "a part" of the Corps, but it is a whole different world. Oh yeah, I was a moto Sergeant too.

It depends a lot on the unit I suppose. I've been in the reserves the whole time so I really can't compare the two. What I've noticed from the active duty guys that join us, is that they try and act all hard and moto for a few weeks, yelling at everything and everyone. The thing about being a reservist (infantry at least) is that we don't have time for all the bs. Our training takes priority so we don't haze, most everyone is locked on. Having said that, I'm pretty sure my company isn't the norm. But you shouldn't knock it until you try it, just like everything in the Corps, it's what you make it.
Ninja edit: Also sorry to op for diverging from the Army, I think what I said still applies to the Army.
Double ninja edit: I wanted to join the Army, but they wouldnt take me because I was too fat haha.

I'm not the Drill Instructor moto type...I hate those guys! lol Oh, and I only brought this up because it seems it would apply to anyone going from active to weekender. And I'm Artillery, so our training includes driving, machineguns and infantry work besides just cannoneering.

I'm not the D.I. type either, it's hard to explain it was just a beat down going there on the weekends and putting up with some e6 that's all high and mighty in the reserves and never been active. (not knocking anyone here at all) The ones that bother me are the wanna be D.I. types that have never been active.

One weekend a month and 2weeks out of the year for training, so what is the problem? Enjoy what you have and if possible make it better prior to moving on.

Exactly! I sure feel you there. Although I've had some pretty "My **** Don't Stink" E-6s on active duty...the kind that talk too much about **** they don't know **** about! I make a point out of proving them wrong until they stop bugging me. lol I'm most worried that it'll be SO long til I get my E-6.

Well I may forgo the Reserves after all. JUST found out yesterday that I got a Police Officer job and the Chief asked if I'd mind holding off for at least a little while since they're a small department. Gonna talk with the Prior Service Recruiter about this all. I sure do want to continue to serve in the Corps..

i gotta admit, I'm in the AF Reserves as a Combat Arms instructor. I'm doing a 30 day active duty tour right now at the same base as my reserve unit. The reserve guys are waaay more strict, and keep their **** a lil bit tighter. Ofcourse the reservists aren't doing the job everyday and dont deal with near the bullshit we deal with here active duty. But to be honest, this experience has me looking for either an AGR gig or possibly swappin to AD.
