3rd ACR was my first duty station. 1997 - 2000, Its a great place to live man. Its one of the few military posts where the town just outside the gate isnt a freaking ghetto.. Colorado springs has its bad spots, but for the most part, its a very nice little city.
If your looking for a place to live and want to buy a house, look in the Fountain, Security, Widefeild areas, there are lots of new subdivisions, with reasonably priced home.. i own one in Fountain.
Get used to the words "PINION CANYON" you will spend a lot of 30 day rotations down in the southeast corner of the state in that training area.
3rd ACR is a great unit, i would go back there in a heart beat... if the elevation wasnt 5700 ft ASL.... My car doesnt like that ****
let me know if you need any specific info on anything, i know alot of folks there, and since i rent my house out, im friends with a really good realator.
Good Luck

One whole squadron stayed at Carson, Longknife. Some of the guys went to Hood with the Blackhawks, but the rest of us stayed behind and re-flagged under 1st Infantry as 1-6 Cav.

I'm also a 25S was at Hood now in Iraq. Just don't live right out the east gate, thats a pretty shady nieborhood. I know all of the e-5's in my unit lived off post as long as they have a drivers license and a car. and when your looking for a house if you find a nice one don't sit on it they go fast or they did when I was looking, I ended up putting a deposit down on a house before it was "on the market" because I lost like 3 houses that I was trying to get.
