Default ABU Gortex

how many of your bases have them at aafes? I am at grand forks i have abu's however they have no gortex and our support will not pay for the parka so i am pretty boned, its been 20 below for the last few days and i have no jackett. i could use my bdu's but i spent my clothing allowance on the new stuff like i should and am now freezing my **** off. just wondering if any body else is in the same situation.

We have the gortex at sheppard, but no ABU's.....we got a good sized shipment, but once those were gone, we were screwed! Our clothing sales is so crappy that we dont even have BDU hats in stock!

Yeah Aafes Has Them On Back Order Thru Mid Feb. And I Refuse To Pay 300 Bucks For One Online. oh yeah that store is also over priced on uniforms in general and look different than the ones you get at aafes at least my bosses do.

that sucks. i like the abu's so much better. no ironing well after correcting the crease, no shinning. if its wrinkled who cares. its kinda stupid for the a/f to release them knowing they dont have near enough for everyone though. especially in the northern tier bases where it gets cold.

Ya, it kind of sucks. They are giving them out to us as we deploy. The good part about that is I dont have to spend my own $$$ on them. ha ha

My BDU are starting to get pretty damn old...I'm trying to put off buying a new set.

i just hit my 5-year mark and got $3xx.00 for clothing allowance... i thot we were supposed to get $1,000 to supplement the cost for all 4 uniforms, as well as the gortex jacket/pants? this is an unsupported rumor, but figured it sounded legit seeing as how uniforms can be expensive.

I got my abu's from when I was deployed to Camp Anaconda and luckily they gave us the jacket (not sure y when it was 120+ degrees..lol) while I was there. I dont' have the pants nor the rank for the jacket, so I still can't wear it.

I feel for the young kids that are getting them at basic now....if they screw them up, or grow out of them, they cannot get replacements.

Camaroguy_02, You wont see your clothing allowance go up for some time, mandatory wear date for the ABU is 2011. I dont expect to see anyone get the reimbursement allowance until at least 2009.

I would not even consider buying the ABU from a civilian source. Admin is watching this very closely, as any source other than AAFES or supply channels is unauthorized. If you get caught wearing on from any other source, you just wasted that money!

We have some some ABU jackets up here at Elmendorf, but no ABU's. If you want to give me your size I can look this weekend for you.

Also, check if your Wing CC didn't sign some sort of policy letter saying you are authorized to wear the BDU Gortex until AAFES has enough jackets. Ours did it up here. You can't be walking around in the cold like that.

This is not true, but apparently the rumor has picked up quite a head of steam. See this - http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/20...tions_071023w/

yeah as long as they are made by propper you can wear them. though i think they look a tad different.

also you can use the bdu gortex rank until they have enough abu gortex rank.

and we should see a raise in clothing allowance this year however congress needs to approve the final budget and members will be paid retroactively or something like that.

This is a recent change......for the longest time, the official AF clothing site for the ABU specifically stated that they could not be bought from any source other than AAFES. This is a step in the right direction to help alleviate the shortage.

Col Morrill....I have talked to her about several issues with the ABU's....nothing like a little TSgt MTL getting a call from the Pentagon, talk about puckering your A-hole!

ABU's were already in world wide release, but no one thought about certain items that needed to be authorized with the uniform, like the "Smokey bear" hat for the TI's, or the aiguilletts for MTL's and airmen leaders........It never ceases to amaze me how little thought is put into such big items, and this is a classic example!

I never went through BMT...how do the aiguillettes get mounted to a BDU? There aren't epaulets so it always kept me thinking...

Safety pin up under the collar for the lazy folks, I have buttons sewed on all my uniforms under the collar.

i ordered my abu's from maacs.com. They get there uniforms from propper international. They are authorized according to the list
http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/20...guide_071022w/
However there is still a long wait. The wait is about 2 weeks hopefully depending on your size. That being said i wouldnt wear the ones i bought from these places oversea's. I would only wear ones i got from clothing sales etc if i deployed. I paid 115 basically for one set of abu's, badges, patches, and a hat
