Default Headed to Tyndall!

Got my assignment yesterday. What's the scoop and who is all there? I'll be there in June looking for a house etc. Can't wait!

Silas,

You sure it's a training base? Don't they have raptors and 15's? I was thought that was TAC for us old timers/ACC. Is it really a CAKE assignment?

Yes they have F-15's and 22's, I was an F-15 crew chief for 7 years in the 1st until they closed down in 06, but they still have 2 squadrons of 15's and 1 of 22's, I am going TDY there for more 22 crap in march and april, and it is a training base, AETC

It's not bad here. I've been here since 2001. Should be heading to Langley in July though. It's humid here and about every kind of bug you can think of...lol...You'll be getting here right after the ORI so that will be good. Yes, we are AETC and as far as deploying, well everyone here is assigned to a AEF and people do get deployed.

You'll want to live away from the papermill!! The smell sucks! But, sometimes you just can't get away from it. If you are buying, it's a good opportunity since it's a buyers market.

You'll have fun here. If you fish you cant beat the area for that!

Well, good luck!

I've only been there for Combat Archer once. It seemed pretty nice (minus the rain season)

Club La Vela FTW!

cailey37, thanks for that info. You'll like the Hampton Roads area. I was stationed at Langley for 10 yrs...the base isn't bad either but that's a matter of opinion. You won't have to worry about bugs but State Troopers instead. LOL

Chris, I plan to cruise til I can't cruise no more.

When is the rain season Pneumothorax?

Silas, its I'm pretty certain its an AETC base. I've taken them from point "A" to point "B" before for additional training, and had some beers with some of the F-15 instructors.

You are correct that they have F-22's as well, and the 22's are probably an operational squadron. They have more than one F-15 squadron there as well, and not all of them may be under AETC.

Best of luck to you man. You deserve the cush base it is for your final one

What's this I keep hearing about that region being labeled "Lower Alabama"? What the hell does that mean exactly?! I've heard this term 4 times in last last 3 days but no one elaborates on it or they just can't seem to articulate it.

It means the people down there and the culture seem more like the stereo typical Alabama, "hilljack" or "trailer trash" than they do your stereo typical Florida people and culture. (No offense intended on anyone from Alabama)

No matter what the people or culture, you are still in Florida, and Tyndal is still a sweet base.

BADMFR,

How long have you bee there? I see you are in Lynn Haven. In the process now in trying to find a house in that area or little further up north in Southport.

Ben,

I am not detered by the lower Alabama thing. Can't be no worse than here and their backwards thinking.
