E4 after 10 years and you're still in the Army? I wouldve gotten out way before that if I were in that situation.

The REAL "money" is what a poster above said;

Married
E4+
OVERSEAS Housing Allowance
OVERSEAS COLA

I was brining in nearly $4k/month in England as an E5.

This is true, however:

10 year E-4 in the USAF = Involuntary Separation = CHA-CHING! Mad cash!

Well:

Last time I saw the USAF regs...if an E-4 doesn't making the promotion cut-off for E-5 after his last testing period at the 10 year mark, he/she is involuntary separated for like $16k. (i.e. they pay the service member that much).

THAT'S mad cash.

Ehhh....... rank depends on situation. I came over to active Army from the Marine Corps with 5 active, 3 IRR, and 2 reserve years. I had to drop back to E-4 because I never got sergeant's course (long story). So, it is possible to have 10 years service and be an E-4.

What do most of you E4's out there with dependents bring home after tax per pay period?
1100 every two weeks, BAH is just a few dollars short of 2k.

damn if that guys is active he sould be looking at E7 at 10, but i guess since he is not in a combat mos it is harder to get promoted, I will be getting my 6 when i get back to the states and will get my first look at 8 years.

oh side note what does an active E4 do in lubbock, tx??

Has nothing to do with it. Its also easy to have low rank and lots of years of service if you had a break of service like when you get off active duty and spend 4 years in the IRR, you accumulate service time while in the IRR. You can also get promoted and attend service schools in the IRR too.

So you could get out an E4 after 4 years, come back on active service 4 years later and be an E4 with 8 years of service.

There is no %20 gift tax on a bonus, where did you come up with that from?

because the bonus is taxed up to I believe 23%. Unless you are deployed then it is tax free. And yes you only get your enlist in 10k increments, however you can get a reenlistment bonus lump sum which can be over ten k
