The REAL "money" is what a poster above said;
Married
E4+
OVERSEAS Housing Allowance
OVERSEAS COLA
I was brining in nearly $4k/month in England as an E5.

Last time I saw the USAF regs...if an E-4 doesn't making the promotion cut-off for E-5 after his last testing period at the 10 year mark, he/she is involuntary separated for like $16k. (i.e. they pay the service member that much).
THAT'S mad cash.

16K is not a lot of money.

Ehhh....... rank depends on situation. I came over to active Army from the Marine Corps with 5 active, 3 IRR, and 2 reserve years. I had to drop back to E-4 because I never got sergeant's course (long story). So, it is possible to have 10 years service and be an E-4.

An E4, depending on where you live can make weell over the equivelent of 45-50K in the civilian world because BAH and BAS are not taxed therefore the net pay of an E4 can be equal to a civilian that makes 45-50K. It depends where you live though.
What do most of you E4's out there with dependents bring home after tax per pay period?

So you could get out an E4 after 4 years, come back on active service 4 years later and be an E4 with 8 years of service.

because the bonus is taxed up to I believe 23%. Unless you are deployed then it is tax free. And yes you only get your enlist in 10k increments, however you can get a reenlistment bonus lump sum which can be over ten k
