places id say no to:
Dover AFB
Andrews, no matter how nice the base is wont take the fear of getting shot while waiting to get on to base away
Little Rock, im here now
Dyess
Mcguire
Places id say yes to:
Travis, the best 4yrs of my life
McChord
Langley
Charleston
Moody
Hurburt Field (sp)
It all depends on what you like and what your job is, im an aircraft mechanic so my past experiences, planes at the bases, and deplyment schedules also factor in to the equation.
If I had a different job, id probably stay here forever because of the area, all the fishing and hunting you could ever ask for.
Depends on what you like to do on your off time.

Not much man wife's BOP just got denied so looks like we will be here a bit longer.. You I never thought I would be here this long, esp. after crosstraining. But I guess I'll have to rid it out till the end of my "sentence" here and hope for someplace better

IMO, as far as what bases to stay away from goes, it all depends on exactly what your looking for as well as your goals i.e. partying and/or education. I'm not going to say which bases to stay away from because you may end up liking them or hating them more than I may have. What I will say is that where ever you get stationed at, take the bad with the good and make the best of things. If you don't like that base, you could always update your dream sheet with which ever Bases are showing that they have a slot open for your AFSC on the AMS (Assignment Management System). Thanks for joining the AF and best of luck with your future...

Oh yeah and one more thing, if you get orders to Beale AFB in California, just know that it is not near any beach. I'm orignally from California and I knew this before coming here but although there isn't much to do here (Big city person wise), I'm enjoying the fact that I can concentrate on my education without any distractions.

If you are single (or I guess even if you are married for some bases), go overseas and avoid stateside. It is the main reason I joined the military... plus OCONUS bases are a completely different atmosphere.

Cannon was my 1st base and it pretty much sucked. Stay away from that one.
Spangdahlem was my 2nd base and it was BAD ***! I would go back in a second. The base is very fast paced and there is a ton of work but the awesome "European experaince" far outweighs the long hours.
Osan is a blast if you like to party hard
I'm at Davis-Monthan now and I love it here. The weather is great and if you're single it's awesome. The U of A is here in Tucson so the night life is super fun.
My advise is to go over seas for your first assignment. Don't try to go back home to be close to Mommy and Daddy get out and see the world, thats the best part of being int he military.

I'd say pick Luke AFB, it's in Phoenix arizona, or Nellis AFB, it's in Vegas. I'm currently at Holloman AFB, which is in Alamogordo, NM. Small town, an hour north of El Paso, TX. We just had an assignment team come down, and i get 1st pick on where i want to go tomorrow. I chose Nellis out of Beale, Nellis, Creech, DM, Mt Home, Moody, Edwards, and Burlington VT<---Guard base only like 10 Active duty on the whole place, but no BX, comissary, or dorms....nada...it's all off the local economy.

Dyess seems to be the topic of discussion lately... I was deployed with some guys from there and just got back 3 weeks ago. I'll be sure to avoid that base at all costs.

"Deal " with any CONUS base, then as soon as you can:
Get to:
UK (Lakenheath/Mildenhall)
Gemany (Spangdhalm/Ramstein)
Italy (Aviano)
Spain (Moran AB)
Japan (Okinawa)
Korea (Osan/Kusan)
The MONEY (dare I say), is overseas. The CONUS bases are crap for the most part!

well since you're new i'm going to let you in on a few Air Force secrets.
Minot AFB is one of them, best assignment ever. this should be on your number one.
Kunson AB korea the best party area in korea
Camp redcloud korea 2nd best place in korea. if you can go there
Tinker AFB. i mean really what isnt good about this place
Robins AFB. the surrounding area is the heat
mountian home AFB.....it has mountain in the name how can the place not be cool.
thats all i can think of for now. hopefully you can get minot AFB

Surprised I haven't seen anyone mention Cannon...
Edit: Looked again and saw a couple people mention it. I've heard horror stories about Cannon. And now they want to move some Preds/Reapers out there. Talk about a kick in the nuts for those pilots...first they get stuck in a UAV...then they get stuck in Cannon...
