2ndly about the beret... 3ID did away with it. We wear the patrol cap.

And, being a E5/Sergeant myself.... i get PISSED if a new private calls me something im not. I dont make a huge scene out of it, but i will correct where a correction is needed. My pet pev's.... I do inspections out the ***, barracks, POVs, ID/dog tags, ECT ect...But, im also the kinda guy where you work hard and play hard with a firm believer in NOT doing busy work!

And for all you leaders out there... take care of your soldiers!

The only hard one is Sergeant Major/First Sergeant because its the same ******* thing. (You cant expect me to tell between a little diamond or a wreath on ACU's without being able to really study it)

So your the ******* that makes young soldiers hate the Army? The micro manager that has no personal life outside his job? Sounds like your one of the ego-mainiacs from your post. I hate when E-5s try to flex muscle because they got some stripes. BTW before you talk **** about me being a dumb private I am higher on the totem pole then you.

Chill out there killer, everyones got their own leading style and because you may not like the way he does his does not off the bat make him the names you are calling him. Chill with the name calling.

I will agree that many E5's let it get to their heads though.

Think the only person I do that with is our ONE E-3, and thats because she is surrounded by people who think they are better than her, yet she is one of the only ones I'd take to war with me because shes confident and knows her ****. Puts her at ease to know someone doesn't take their stripe too seriously. She addresses me like she should though and she's never changed that either.

While I agree that it may come off as "micro managing" we all earn our stripes, regardless of what our branch or MOS is do we not? Not like someone just comes up one day when your a Specialist/Corporal and slaps you on the back and goes "you do a great job, congrats your a Sgt now!" Least thats not how we work And what does being higher on the totem pole have to do with anything? Is that a relevant depiction of yourself because of your MOS or did the Army change that below an E-5 was considered higher ranking in status? Reason I ask is because with my job, an E-3 can do the same job an E-8 is doing....and can even tell them what to do. However, they still have to respect the rank regardless.

I only put that in there so he doesnt get on here trying to tell me he is going to put me at parade rest or something gay like that. Sounds like he fits that type. He would probably think I was a E-3 if I didnt.
You dont have to earn your stripes in the Army now. They have all kinds of new promotion B.S. and you can be a E-5 in under 2 years. M.O.S. proficient or not.
In the Army a E-3 will never tell a E-8 what to do regardless of M.O.S., or hold the same position as one.
Say a E-3 medic was under a Infantry 1SG for example. The medic can give his opinion but the E-8 can tell him to screw off and do what he wants medical or not.

BDUs....I haven't seen them for over a year. I guess I might see one or two once I get back to Drum. I thought we were close to the end date for them?

The easy way to tell outside is to look at the beret. If they are a officer then it will have their rank. If they are enlisted it will have the unit crest. Other then that you have to wait untl they are right on top of you to tell with ACUs

Beret...yeah....I had forgotten about that abomination. Haven't seen one since I arrived in theater and frankly am not missing them. If you are in a special unit (airborne, rangers, special forces) I can understand the beret and all it means to you. To me though, the patrol cap is the perfect head gear for the US Army. I mean, c'mon...an ACU print baseball cap...what says American Army more than that?
[/ot]
Patrol cap or ACH is the only head gear we wear over here. That rank is just as small as the ACU rank.

Thats what he was saying, it's the same in the AF. An E-3 can't order an E-8 to do anything, but if they do the same job and the 3 knows what to do, he can say so.

Although, BigT and I can tell full bird colonels what to do

agreeing with the red
and to answer the orignal question, address with sergeant from afar and upon closer view apologize if needed and make your correction, most good NCO's wont bite ur head off for making an honest mistake, but there are the 1%'s out there.
