Default Military Freudian slips?

I know I used to do this all the time when I was active and have started doing it a lot lately since joining ROTC at college to earn a comission. But have you ever accidentally said something military in response and got a funny look?
My worst is when I'm talking to a customer on the phone while doing something else and when he asks a question I respond with "hooah" and get a "huh?"

I also tend to ask civilians if they are tracking and every now and then and usually the context gives away what I'm saying and they understand the "roger"s here and there.

Discuss.

i have been known to let a few, yut, err, oohrah, check, and semper's go loose on civilians. its kinda embarrassing at first but after a while you don't care any more. Congrats, you have been institutionalized.

I say roger to just about everything now. Its annoying but gets the point across.

Trust me when I say this, it will only get worse once you get active. Youll be saying military slang at almost every conversation but by then almost 99% of your friends are military too or you are at least near a post/base and people understand what you are saying.

I don't say any of that **** even when I'm supposed to, I've had radio checks go like this,

"And Lowlife this is Savage our Fox Mike is Tango Uniform How copy Victor?"
"Scott, shut up and tell me if the radio works"
"no, it doesn't"

Instead of "No" say "Negative"...I get weird looks all the time.
I'll say tracking, or ETA 20 Mikes...that gets people thinking.
Inbound. Enroute. Oscar Mike.

When I am leaving a place and its loud (read: Bar) I'll do the "pull chalks" motion with my hands or "pop smoke" (depends if I am with AF or Army buddies).

My other buddy and I used to refer to the "size" of chicks via units. So a thick chick would be a Bradley, and a heavy chick would be an Abrams. Or hell sometime we refer to them as the 5th Fleet or a Brigade. We say stupid some stupid yet inventive **** when we get intoxicated.

I can see it now. "How does your phone plan integrate with Interceptor IBA's and will I use MOLLE or ALACE LBA's?"

I don't think I've heard anyone in any branch call someone "sarge"... I think I would be shocked if I heard it. Only civ's and contractors use that because they don't know the rank or are lazy.

About using the military jargon, I picked up a lot and use it every once in awhile. Most the time I don't even notice I did though... it just comes out naturally.

I was active, that was my point.

I tried the military talk with the telemarketer from ATT calling about my wireless service. I was like "If I get the free phone from you will I get interference with my SINGARS?" and he was like uhhhhhhhhh let me give you a call back and he never did lol
