Thumbs down What to say to a guy like this?

I take night classes at a college that is jam packed full of veterans and reserve/guardsmen and most of us associate with another. Well we were out side lighting cancer sticks when a guy walks past us in tennis shoes, blue jeans, an open ACU top over a black t shirt and dog tags worn on the out side of his shirt.. It looked tacky as hell.

It had a name and US Army on the chest but no unit patches.

It just looked tacky. Didn't even match. Now I know most of us are guilty of cutting our old BDU pants into shorts but I would never use an ACU top as a jacket or some sort of shirt. Don't know if he's prior service or a poser.

Say nothing, he might be a civilian. Dont make an *** out of yourself by opening your mouth unless you can verify hes a servicemember.

Just leave it alone, I was shooting pool one night with my friends and this *** hat had an ACU top on rolled up to his elbows open with a USMC shirt under it and a USMC hat on with some army desert boots and jeans, it was all I could do to not say something. I also saw an ROTC cadet today with a PT shirt under her ACU's and I asked what she was doing and she said that her tan shirts were wet when she got dressed. I told her next time that means she's gonna be cold as **** but she'd better not wear it with her uniform again. Shitbags...

i hate the people who dress up in their civilians then wear their dog tags outside of their shirt like some fashion. adding the acu top to that would be even worse, if it was me, i probably woulda said something.

i once got into a kid with something similar. i was just home on recruiters assistance for two weeks, so i was out at the local malls, in uniform, etc. anyways i had gone to the gas station and was just walking out, i see some kid, looked like maybe 17? walking down the sidewalk wearing full ACU's, boots, etc. but he had no cover on, and he had his collar popped and velcro'ed tight around his next. name tapes and US ARMY on, with 1st cav unit patches each arm. i was like, WTF? i sat there for a minute contemplating what i just saw as the kid walked down the sidewalk. i then ran up to him, asked him hey did you lose your cover? as i got closer i noticed the kid had a goatee and clearly not the typical looking service member. the kid started um uh uh stuttering. then i asked to see his ID. he pulls out a set of dog tags. i said no, your ID, not your dog tags. again, the kid was like uh uh uh... then i ask him what unit you in? he then lifts his arm a little and says "1st cav" as if i didn't see the patch on his shoulder. i ask him, who's your commander? he had nothing but uh uh uh uh.... i then told him i know you're lying, you're not a soldier. i then made him take his acu top off and fold it up. i told him not to put it on again, and to take his *** home right now and give the uniform back to whom it belongs to. the whole time he was like, "yes sir yes sir".

It's one thing to just have an acu top on in trying to "style" it. this kid had the entire uniform on, and was straight trying to impersonate someone.

The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 (the Act), signed into law by President George W. Bush on December 20, 2006,[1] is a U.S. law that broadens the provisions of previous U.S. law addressing the unauthorized wear, manufacture, sale or claim (either written or verbal) of any military decorations and medals. It is a federal misdemeanor offense, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for not more than 1 year and/or a fine; the scope previously covered only the Medal of Honor.

The Act was first introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on July 19, 2005 by Representative John Salazar, a Democrat from Colorado, as H.R. 3352.[2][3] It was introduced into the Senate by Senator Kent Conrad, a Democrat from North Dakota, on November 10, 2005 as S. 1998.[4][5] The Senate version was passed unanimously on September 7, 2006.[5][6] The Senate version then went to the same House Judiciary Committee that held the House version. The Act briefly stalled, but the House subsequently passed the Senate version, S. 1998, on December 6, 2006.[7]

The purpose of the Act is to strengthen the provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 704 by broadening its scope and strengthening penalties. Specific new provisions in the Act include: granting more authority to Federal law enforcement officers, extending scope beyond the Medal of Honor, broadening the law to cover false claims whereas previously an overt act had to be committed, covering mailing and shipping of medals, and protecting the reputation and meaning of military heroism medals.[3][5] The law Under the act, it is illegal to wear, buy, sell, barter, trade or manufacture "any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces." In the 18 months after act was enacted, the Chicago Tribune estimates 20 prosecutions and the number is increasing as awareness about the law spreads. [8]

The need for the Act came about because of large numbers of fake military heroes in the United States. For example, as of June 2, 2006 there were only 120 living Medal of Honor recipients, but there were far more known imposters.[9][10][11] There are also large numbers of fake Navy SEALS[12][13] and Army Special Forces,[14] among others.

The Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA), an organization of collectors, had opposed the bill in its current form. OMSA is of the opinion that the changes to 18 U.S.C. § 704 included wording that implied that any movement or exchange of medals would be illegal
