Nikon D90 vs Canon 50D
Why do you feel you need the D90 or 50D? What are you ultimately doing with the camera/shots taken? Do you have any old lenses you're going to use on either of these bodies?
Reason I ask is because most of the time, its not the camera itself thats going to make the big difference in picture quality, its the glass (lens) used. Your images will only be as good as the glass that was used to capture them. If you have old lenses of either brand, they will more than likely work with either of their respective brands. If you don't need the HD video, I'd strongly suggest looking at the Nikon D80 or D40x. Both are 10mp cams, and both take great shots, even with the 'kit' lenses, and can be had for $350-$800. I'd spend the money on one of these bodies and spend more money on a better lens (or 2) purchased separately.
If you want something that works well for quality, track, and low light, I'd invest in a body and buy your own lens to go along with it. The kit lenses for these cameras (unless you found a great deal somewhere) won't offer the wide aperture (at least a f2.8) you'll need for low light type shooting. Whichever brand you decide to go with for a body, there are same-brand lenses or 3rd party lenses (Tamron, Sigma, etc) that will work as well.
Theres several websites that review lenses and cameras, explaining each. If you're interested, feel free to PM me. I'm generally a 'rookie' to the dslr world/photography, but its kinda turned into a big interest for me and I find myself shooting more often/different ways with things as I learn more.
I prefer the color recognition of Canon over Nikon and also Canon lenses. Their L line far surpasses the build quality of comparable Nikon lenses.
I'd buy whatever body you choose depending on what brand you like for whatever reason, and a good all around lens thats capable of f2.8 aperture (not a kit lens).
