I honestly wasn't expecting this outcome.. Hopefully with a break in and seat time, the stang will be able to pull it.. This just proves that GM fucked up the new camaro by making it too damn heavy. with 100 more rated horsepower, it should be able to walk a 4th gen WITH EASE..

I'm sure the Mustang will edge out a LS1 stock vs stock with equal drivers. All this tells me is that the LS1 Motor is still very competitive with today's competition given how old they are. I love the LS based motors.

If you are saying THIS particular Camaro has 320 rwhp ok. But MOST don't dyno that high. As for the Mustang..

365 lb-ft of torque at 4,350 rpm and 395 hp at 6,600 rpm

I know that I'm on on GM based website, but the "fan boys" comments crack me up.

I'm sure the ones that are throwing that term around are just as passionate about their brand.

I'm looking forward to that Z28. It's going to be bad-assed.

Let us all not forget the price/class these cars are in. The Cobra was higher and in a different class than the LS1 F-Bodies and was aimed more at the base model Corvette. The Z28 will be competing with the GT500 not the GT. All in all, the 5.0 vs LS1 vs LS3 is a driver's race with the edge, stock for stock, going to the LS3 and 5.0. Now the Z28 vs GT500, who knows. I'm betting the Z28 will be ahead but it could be a driver's race as well. I haven't heard any argument when comparing a 5thG about break in miles or seat time etc so I don't count it here. Also, that was a real life race, could happen any time anywhere. It if happens again, the outcome could be different but that's why we race isn't it? It's never going to be perfectly equal out on the street or at the track. The cars are only going to be fast enough as their owners can make them.

I would say that 310-320 is a pretty common, the outliers being in the 320-330 range which is why I said estimated ~320 rwhp depending on the model year.

You know more about GMs than I do. So I'll take your word for it. A lot of stock LS1s I've seen barely hit 300.

Can someone explain to me how traction control is going to affect the outcome of that roll race? Especially when it didn't seem to hurt the Mustang either, seeing how he jumped... The SS ran him down easily once he was already moving along nicely.

So basically the LS1 won both races. The Mustang jumped BOTH times, and then provides, not one, not two, not three, but FOUR excuses for it?

I'm not sure how traction control works in the S197 Mustangs, but I can tell you in mine that it would cut the fuel off completely at WOT. It felt like you hit a brick wall when traction control kicked on. I would imagine Ford got a little smarter this time around. Just throwing that out there...not making excuses. It's nice that Ford made a more stout platform to start with, but it's still slow and it will require mods like every stock car.

Do you usually get your best times in a car you've never driven before with another person in the passenger seat and the traction control on? I would say that could even cause up to a second slower pass. It comes on by default. But you can turn it off I believe. At least on the 04 and older ones. If you've ever tried to launch your car with traction control on before (at least like this) you'll know it kills most everything.

I mean the guy had an extra 200lbs, traction control on, AND it was his first track run, and the fbody still was only slightly ahead.

What's going to happen when someone drives it without a passenger, that knows how to drive it down the track, and who has traction control off?

I am also wondering what kind of tires the Camaro had. As I am sure the GT had crappy "all season" radials.

I agree that many of Ford's traction control systems can be very intrusive. But I still don't see how traction control plays part in a roll race from the speed shown in the video. We're talking about high 12 second cars at best here, traction from a second gear roll should not be an issue.

ANY traction control system can be intrusive. And if you don't understand how it effects roll races, you've never had it come on in the middle of the highway while downshifting.

Those are very strong numbers, I will say that Atco is very racer friendly when it comes to et. With cool temps and low DA and an awesome track, lots of cars fly there!

Alot of NHRA records have been broken at that facility.

Anyway, I do like the car...
