There's always a way to go faster for cheaper... somebody could take a foxbody or an old Chevy II or something and dump 5-10 into it and go even faster.

You're not going to run 10.1 @ 138mph for $2K though. ..and a "nice" car for $20K is relative to your experience, income, etc. It sounds as though you're talking about your own specific situation. There are people out there that aren't constrained by money or at least their budgets are bigger than others. I'm sure I've spent $20K or so in mods for my car.

Ask an LS1 owner than runs 10.1 @ 138mph how much he spent on mods. I think you'll be surprised at the answer.

Yup... that's what the AMS website says about the 'alpha 9' package!

You make it sound as if it ran a 10.99 @ 123mph. There is a big difference between running a 10.1 @ 138 mph and high 10's with a low trap speed. There are almost ZERO cars on the road that will touch this car from a percentage standpoint. A few drops of torco and another pound of boost or so would easily make this a 9 second car that probably drives like stock. That's a "FAIL"? Interesting.

No, nothing to do with my experience or income. I think that you can get a nice car for 20-22,000 and a lot will agree. Nowhere near the caliber of a GTR but a fraction of the cost.

For example, an 03-04 cobra can be had for 20,000 and nowadays even less. Running 11's with that car will run ya what, 2-3 grand? I'm sure you know better than I do. Now, weather I consider the 03/04 a nice car based on my income, experience and some may not is a different case scenario.

At the end of the day.....$100,000 car+$22,000 worth of work doesn't equal a huge gain in my book.....OH fwiw, a C6 Z06 can break 10's with a drag radial and the driver mod.

Exactly...which is why your comparison doesn't work in this instance IMO.

There is nothing "nice" about a '03/'04 Cobra other than it's straight line performance IMO. They turn ok too, but that's about it. It's a low quality car particularly in comparison to a GTR. Yes, you can run 11's for a few thousand dollars with a Cobra, but you're going to be running high 11's (most likely) and you're not going to be making much power. A car that traps 138mph is a missile on the street.

Again, I think you're missing the point. There have been a few C6 Z06's to break 10's with a drag radial and a great driver...and that's BARELY in the 10's and not even 130mph traps. This GTR is a 9 second car.

I'm not sure why there is so much hate here on a brand new car that has all the creature comforts in the world and that will run 9's. I'm guessing only people that have actually run this fast and understands what it
takes to get there would be impressed...or would at least appreciate it for what it is.

You're comparing a mustang to a 100k GTR..

FYI GTRs have ran high 10s with nothing but a tune and cat back exhaust.

OH fwiw, me and my friend built a honda hatch that runs 10s with 6k total investment. Thats like 10% the cost of a Z but more then 100% of the performance!

In fact this makes the GTR look even worse! I mean sure the civic has no interior but its faster in a straight line for less money therefore it is the better car. End of discussion.

I know. It's a pointless discussion really. Either your understand or you're from the "I can buy an LS1 for $5K and spend the rest in mods" camp.

impressive? to each his own i guess. it does run good and would surprise alot of people. its definitely cool that some people that buy exotic cars actually mod them and race, instead of just cruising them on a nice weekend.
