Talking My 4th Gen TA vs. 1st Gen SS & BMW 7 Series

So all my prior cars that I have tracked have been auto's. Easy as heck to do a burnout in them of course. Different story in a manual I found out. I can do burnouts fine away from the track, but it seems the traction at the track kills me with doing burnouts there. I'll just try sitting in the water box next time I guess? This was down at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD on Friday. I've never seen so few cars there in my life. It was like we rented out the track. You could basically run as many times as you wanted to. Temps in the high 80's with 55%+ humidity and threat of t-storms kept people away. My alternator decided to go so I was running on battery power for most of the runs.

I ran everything from an LS1 powered AMX (running 12.0's all night long), to a BMW, 1st Gen Camaro SS, 5th Gen Camaro SS, and more.

This is my buddy/co-worker's 5th Gen SS with my TA behind it (Crappy cell shot):

First race is against a 1st Gen Camaro SS (I ran a 13.6@105 and the SS ran a 14.0@101):

2nd race is against a late 2010-ish BMW 745 (I ran a 13.8@105 and he ran a 15.2@94):

More vids to come when I feel like uploading 'em

Edit: Exterior video with my buddies iPhone of my co-worker/friend in his 5th Gen Camaro SS racing me. Beat me by .022 seconds:

First race was a second gen Camaro (70 1/2 to 73 style). Good videos from the track. Get a new alternator and practice that launch and you will see even better times.

Ah okay, I am not a 1st/2nd Gen knowledgeable person I'll admit. Whatever the case, it was a fun race. New alternator is in (3rd in 2 days). I really need to work on my launches!

DO NOT WATER BOX it. If you do people will get pissed. All you really need if on street tires is a quick clean-off spin just like in your second video. Pull around the water box so your tires stay dry, have the tech or a friend back you up till your rear tires barely touches water, inch forward & spin them off to heat them up in first gear. If you pull through the water box on street tires it'll take water with it up to the stagin line & will drip back down out of your inner fenders onto the back tire. Keep it all dry & you'll get traction.

Now if on slicks & skinnies pull on through the water box, the front dont bring water like a regular street tire & you'll want to roll the entire surface of the slick through the water to get it goin otherwise warmin up the tires is a bitch.

I've been tracking cars for 10 years (With auto trans vehicles) - I'm aware I always go around the water box with street tires. In some cases I will back into the box, but that's rare. As you saw from the 2nd vid that's basically what I was doing all night with the quick little jump in 1st gear. Thanks for the info though.

This is the one I have - with the suction cup mount. Rated to 180 MPH if I recall correctly: http://www.quadratec.com/products/96101_0002.htm

You could also invest in a line lock, thats the go to for most manual guys honestly, especially if on slicks & needing to really heat them up.

Only reason I said what I did was I saw you mention goin through the water. No biggie

Gotcha. I wouldn't mind a line lock once I get some drag radials Yep, IF I go into the water box it's only a drive around and then back in. The guys at Cecil kind of make it hard to go around the box - they direct you right into it. I nearly run them over every time I go through the middle and to the side past the box.

I agree. I'm getting a tune ASAP and going right back to see if it does anything. Waiting for a cooler night too with less humidity. It was way too hot to be running that night.
