If I am not mistaken...that is a camel spider. They are very common over in the middle east. I had my first experience with one in saudi back in 97'....not a fun one!

HOLY ****!! That ******* freaks me out. I got tense as hell just looking at that picture! I think I would either faint or go screaming like a little girl if one of those things got on me(probably faint). I can handle snakes and small spiders but, those are un-*******-believable!! I can't even type the way those make me feel.

What's even more extreme, is that the desert nomads actually eat those things at times. You guys ought to see some of the rats they have over there. They can kill a dog or a cat. The biting sand flies, dust that's so fine, that it will give you emphesema if you are exposed to it long enough. I think it's just another case for nuclear testing. WMD's do exist, now you have proof.

I think they look like something out of the movie "Ice Station Zebra." I don't if some of you have seen that movie. You'll know what I mean if you have.

They can and do. How this happens is, they will crawl along the ground until they get to be underneath (sp) a camels stomache and then jump and latch on to the camels stomache. BAM...dead moments later.

OMG! dont get this started. They arent poisonous and they dont eat camel stomachs. they feed on small insects. They are fast though. They can run up to 10mph. I was in the "big sand box" the first time around and got to play with these nasty little critters. UGLIEST things you have ever layed your eyes on. But they cat hurt you.

Oh, good. SuperTrooper had me worried for a second there.
Since they're safe, I wonder if I could get one here in the States as a pet.
I'd call him Fluffy.
