$30K? How can that be? That must not include the cost
of the drivetrain. Maybe you get a rolling chassis for $30K.

Says on their site it's 20k for the roller, then another 10-20k to complete the build.

Yeah 30k seemed a bit optimistic, but I (like many on this site) have enough spare lsx parts to practically build another car. I wish there were enough of them completed so we could see some performance data with the different engine combos.

"realistically we estimate that folks will spend between $35,000 and $40,000 to complete the car" It looks pretty damn cool, but how can this car be street legal? GM (or any car manufacturer) can't sell a vehicle without extensive crash testing for example. Also, how can I go to the DMV and register a vehicle that I've built with no VIN number? Wouldn't they laugh at me? I looked for such info on the site, but did not come across anything. I'm curious, although I'll probably never be able to afford to build one. Perhaps it's a race car only. In which case I'd say that just sucks ***.

The tranny in teh pic looks like a Scooby or Audi awd tranny that they are only using the front driveshafts out of. It appears to have a tail chaft stickin out in the back.
I cna only imagine how much of a headache that car would be if i assembled it on my own. Cut corners all over to make it a faster install. Have to hot wire the car to get it to start. And to have someone else put it together would be about half a years salary lol.
As much as teh LS7 is great in teh Z06 i dont think id ever use that engine in any build of mine. It is great as a stock engine but u can easily make a LS1 make 500 rwhp for well under the over 10k it costs for that engine. Im, certainly not knockin it jsut sayin that for the money there is beter ways. GL guys

I believe I heard something about a Porsche GT3 transaxle?
That's outside my realm of knowledge so I couldn't tell you to be honest.

Ditto, the transaxle is the Porsche/Getrag G50, or variant thereof. I'm not sure specifically. But for something north of 450 HP, I'd bet on them using a G5050 or G 5052.

Those things have been out for awhile. I've seen some pretty cool ones, as Factory Five is just around the corner from me. They always have a couple at Bostons World of Wheels as well.

40k is more realistic for an LSX variant (not an LS7), and some goodies. You can get up to $60k pretty easily. There's a guy with a red/silver one that's got it all done up. Supposedly spent around $60k on the entire build. Course if you have the money, I'm sure it's easy to blow it on a kit car like this.

As far as VINs, these are kit cars. They have VIN numbers.... Most states have special laws for these types of cars (A/C - Shelby Cobra Replicas ,etc.) I'd just call up the DMV or state house and ask some questions.

About the same thing you have to go through when you build a custom bike. You have to do a bunch of crap, take it up to springfield (in IL any way) and they check all the safety stuff and stamp the vin into it. Alot more complicated than that, but that's about the jist of it I think.

The car is pretty cool, no question about that. The weight absolutely baffles me.
A C6Z is fast as hell in stock trim at ~3,000lbs, but 2,300lbs?
Can you imagine driving around in a 600rwhp go kart?

It's very reasonably priced IMO.
