Default LS7 2002 Firehawk

Below are a few photos of an LS7 swap we performed in a 2002 Firehawk Convertible. The owner wanted something that looked fairly stock when he opened the hood and had the drivability that he had when the car was stock.

A stock 2007 Z06 makes roughly 440-450 RWHP on our Dyno Jet. This car made 482 RWHP/463 RWTQ through an auto on the same dyno! Seems like it really liked the headers, exhaust, and tune!

The car and detailed story can be seen in the July/August issue of Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine.

Regards,

Rick LeBlanc

how much would a swap like that cost?
What do you have to do to wire it up? Is everything custom wired?
That is what i would like to do one of these days, just would like to know all that is involved

Awesome setup! Can't beat power like that through a motor with just a few bolt ons.

Very cool swap, looks like that LS7 is right at home in there, can't what to read about it in Pontiac Enthusiast.

That could easily fool a lot of mustang drivers. "Oh yeah it's just an LS1 with headers/tune."

geezus that extra 81 ci doesn't even seem to affect the engine bay at all, looks so at home in there!

Is that a stock LS1 75 mm MAF in there?

Making that power with a "smallish" MAF is just bad-a$$

I'd like to run a Firehawk with that set-up motor-to-motor

The swap is quite expensive considering the engine itself is $12,999.99. Labor, fabrication, and additional parts (BMR k-member, Kooks headers/y-pipe, Corsa catback, Throttle Body, ATI damper, flexplate, hoses, lines, fittings, battery relocation kit, etc.) were roughly another $10,000.00. Other installation details included cutting down the LS7’s oil reservoir tank to fit in the F-car’s engine compartment; relocating the coolant overflow/fill tank; and replacing the LS7’s stock wireless throttle body with a conventional cable-operated throttle body. This last step was necessary because the Firebird’s stock computer doesn’t know from “drive by wire” operation and needed a traditional throttle cable to tug on. All of the wiring connected to the factory harness.

It has an aftermarket MAF, but does have the stock air box, filter, and air bellow.

If there should ever be a definition of a sleeper, this would the perfect fit. Looks basically stock with some bolt ons. Great Job!

How does it sound compared to putting a corsa and headers on a stock LS1?

i understand he wanted something to look stock, but what a waste of money. for 1/4 of the cost he could have had a iron 427 or 408 and had full exhaust and everything and possibly made more power. and kept the "sleeper" look.

Keep shop bashing out of this thread - PZ
