My dad's not as smart as I am... but he's definitely wiser.

here is a pic of my grandpa, 71, and my brother, 16. This was taken last summer, and I insisted that he not get on the ground to help, but of course he didn't listen. He let me work on my car in the garage and borrow his truck and help me any way he could, without his help my car wouldn't be together. Monday he had both knees replaced and he still let me borrow his brand new 06 Ram 2500 w/ Cummins engine to tow my car after I broke the trans at the track on Tuesday. Even though he is still in the hospital he is more concerned about my car then his new knees.

My dad has helped me alot over the years with cars, and pretty much all things about life. He taught me alot of things about working on cars, and I've learned alot on my own too. I've gone from the tool getter, to the mechanic lol, and he just watches me work now, and helps when I need an extra set of hands. My newest project is a 72 Nova. He bought one brand new and since he helped me restore my 67 Camaro like I wanted it, I thought I would redo the nova to be exactly like his car was in 72.

My dad is alot like the other fathers described. Shakes his head when im online ordering new parts but will always help when i need it. He tells me im wasting my money and its stupid but yet tells guys he works with that my car made 334rwhp with only a catback and air lid. he takes me car and beats on it every now and then, its rather funny. When he was my age he had 2 z28s a 70' and a 78' . he also had countless other muscle cars. the comment made about them noticing you working hard and not smart is so true!

This is a very cool thread. Thank you for starting it.
I don't get to see my dad very often, but I would love nothing more than to get work in Phoenix so that I could spend some time with him and do some car builds, and enjoy some of those great twisty highways in the mountains down there!
Here is my dad's '56 Chevy wagon: grocery getter
It has an LI1 under the hood.
Pop also has a '23(?) Truck with a TPI L98.

I owe everything i know to my pop's. He has been a heavy line tech for longer than i've been alive. So i was in the game when i was 6-7 changing oil, tool boy, etc.
I owe my taste of very understated, plain looking sleeper type cars to him too. My favorite sleeper he built was a 1963 Suburban w/ a mildly built 350/700R4 that was slammed. We used to go import hunting in that heavy *** thing. It beat MANY "built" tegs, SI's, NT eclipses, etc.
Lately he has gotting into custom choppers. I've learned alot about those as well. We can build one (after a proper test fitting) from a bare frame in about a 7-9hrs.
Good thing i'm the junior out of me and my bro, cuz my bro isn't into cars at all.
To all the badass pop's out there!!!!!

My Dad was patient enough to not kill me every time I took something apart starting when I was about 8. He would just help me put it back together. Now I can find my way around pretty much anything without to big of an issue, but If there is a question he's still the same patient man willing to teach me how. I love my dad more than anything. Without a doubt my real hero. I can only hope one day I will be as good to my own children

Im in the same boat as you. Me and my dad bought a 79 Trans am a long *** time ago. We spent every single weekend fixing up that car. Powder coating or painting every little piece. Unfortunatly we never got to finish the car together, but it will be done and it will stay in the family forever
