Default me vs z28 and 347 stroked s/c stang

Well today i went out to play this was the first time ive gotten to do ne thing since the cam install. I have to say im kind of disappointed, I ran another z28 with unknown mods other than he was m6 as well. He was half a car ahead when he punched it so i had to catch up. Then I ran a 347 stroked s/c stang running 8lbs and I still have stock gears on my car and the SOB wont go in 3rd so i have some more work to do. Is this a normal outcome for these races or is my car a turd with the ms4? and would some 4.10s greatly help my cause and change the outcome?

If you don't have anything but stock gears, YES 4.10's will be a serious kick in the *** for you. By the looks of the video, you would have taken the stang w/ a set of 4.10's.

nope just stock gears so far and i must say it seems to make my car a turd with my cam set up. I guess its time to look into some 4.10s and some spray and have another go at it. That stang is a friend of ours it was all in good fun ne ways I just wanted to see how I would hang with him after my cam swap and to my suprise he pulls quite well.

373 or 410s.
Either one will do wonders.

Honestly though, Ive never been a huge fan of the MS4. The Ms3 was a good cam. But with my experiences, The MS4 was a huge let down for me.

Do tell your reasoning I'm curious to know, I'm not un impressed with the ms4 at all I still think its very driveable and I only have a mail order tune. I just need the supporting mods to put it to use.

^ you dont need to spray to beat that stang, with the small margin of victory he had over you, 4.10's will make up that ground and then some. You have to make sure that w/ a cam that aggressive that you have the gearing to compensate for the area down low. Even w/ my mid sized cam it did not feel like it was really kicking in until higher rpms and then I got 4.10's and it was a world of difference. Just make sure to get your speedo corrected after the gear swap, mine was off by 10-11 mph.

That's good news to hear what did you use to calibrate the speedo? Also I forgot to mention he had 3.73 in the stang.

I would go with 3.73 they will help a lot 4.10 will help too but not good for 120mph+ runs.

and if the Stang is 347 S/C he is the one that should be disappointed not you.
What Mph did you run the stang with 3rd gear???

Great runs BTW.

Well I will be doing more dig runs in the future Im having some rear end and clutch issues preventing me from wanting to do a dig run right now so I had more of 4.10's in mind and we have and 1/8 track here I want to go to sometime. I ran him in 1st from like a 25 to 30 mph punch up through 3rd dont really know the mph we cut out at, 3rd gear was pissing me off and it was missing everytime and I would take it up to about 6500 just b/c i have a 98 with weaker rod bolts and 92k im a little conservative at the moment. Almost everytime i would go from 2-3 it would just not be there for me I have all new hydros, drill mod, rebuilt tranny, and spec 3 clutch with the shim installed but it still seems to be releasing way off the floor and losing pressure at WOT I dont know what to do anymore .

If I could actually get the sob into 3rd i would start to even it out, we did several more runs after this vid none worth posting b/c i would miss 3rd everytime. I got one good run with a 2nd gear punch and we ran through 4th and i started to real him in SLOWLY again when that 8lbs kicks in for him though I just cant keep up. I also still have stock injectors that need to go im sure they are way over their duty cycle.

Am I just reading wrong or are you un-tuned? If so, DO NOT get a mail order tune, they are ok to get you to a tuner, but in no way can they get your A/F spot on. Get a good dyno tune from a tuner w/ a good reputation in using HPtuners or LS1edit. Once you get a tune, that may be enough by itself to take out that stang. And as stated above, the stang owner is the one that should be pissed that you hung w/ a S/C'ed 347 stroker in a cam only LS1 fbody. The tuner will be able to adjust your speedo for the gear change and eliminate other crap in the computer that causes codes to be thrown. What I did to prep for going to my tuner was: Make a list of ALL things done to your car, any issues ( surging, stalling out, codes, etc...) Tell him what cam you have and the specs on it ( cam card would be the best to bring the tuner ) and tell him in list form what you are looking for in driveability and any other questions. This will make it easy on the tuner and give him starting points for trouble spots. good luck and post the re-match vid of you whoop'n that stangs *** !!!!

LOL the car ONLY has a mail order tune from TSP, infact I just got this car running a week ago after a rebuild over the winter. So I wanted to get out and see what she ran like after the cam swap. I dont have a wideband gauge yet which Ill get down the road so I also have no clue of the A/F ratio this was just a test run for me. I will be sure to get a rematch with him and im gonna try to get everything else fixed and get some dig runs for u guys b/c I'm also racing his race right now.

Well Ive put in numerous cams in different cars. Im also part of a big F-body club in Central Texas so I see a ton of highly modded cars. It has to do with your supporting mods whether your cam is good or not.(gears) Im not saying the MS4 is a bad cam, Im simply saying its not what I thought it would be. Im glad your happy with it but, with my F-13 cam Ive run down 2 different MS4 cars. So I guess Im just saying bigger isnt always better. But yes 4.10's will make a worlds difference with that big of a cam.

What kind of heads was he running? Probably some cheap POS edelbrock's.

You NEED to build a 347 with some Victor JR's
