Default Need Help With Corvette - Video Inside

So a while back my dad swears he's hearing this cracking noise, I listen to it and you can distinctly hear it coming from the back left. Not only that, but you can sometimes see the wheel move a little when you go back and forth. In the video you can hear the transmission shift, then when it pulls in either direction you hear a *crack/crunch/pop* kind of sound, I swear its like a U-Joint.

http://webpages.acs.ttu.edu/nschrein...te-problem.MPG

I took it up to my work to get it checked out and they believe its a U-joint as well, but thats a pretty expensive guess. Also when you shift easy from 1-2 it shakes sideways for a couple seconds, anything to do with it? What do you think about it?

Sounds dumb but, make sure the lugs are tight.

They are, I torqued them down myself to 95 pounds.

ur trans could be on its way out. When i used to work at the dealer i had that prob. with a car. It made a sound in the drivetrain. It turned out to be the trans. just check it to make sure. Look at the fluid.

I'd jack up and support the rear, pull the rear tires, then go through the backward-forward thing. You'll have a better "see" at where exactly the noise comes from. For extra safety, I prefer a stack of nailed together 2x8's under each side of the frame in addition to jacks.

I had it on an alignment rack and did that. Everything was solid behind the wheel save the caliper which is one more thing to look at. I was never there when they ran it with the wheel off.

Does the noise increase with speed? Does it correlate with the rotation of the tires, or driveshaft? I can't tell from the video.
You've probably already checked this, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've talked to C4 Corvette owners whom have been through this, they all seem to think its the outer U-joint. It would explain why I also get the 2nd gear shake. At $20 a piece it will definitely be the first thing I'll do, even if it does take 3-4 hours for both sides.

The noise doesn't increase with speed and you can hear it every once in a while when you drive, usually when you hit a bump around a corner or something. It doesn't increase with with tire rottion and everything seems to be tight.
