Default What is the RIGHT thing to do in this situation?

I bought a item from a seller on here (who will remain nameless FOR NOW.) I paid what the seller was asking for the item SHIPPED. He then shipped it (it was a Firehawk dash plaque) it just a plain white paper envelope and of course the sorting machines at the post office ripped the envelope and the badge fell out and was lost (if it was ever even in there...how do I know it was?) The PO clearly asks if its over 1/4in thick and if it is its considered a package and has to be shipped as such...for a whopping .50 more. I guess to save that .50 he just mailed it as a letter. So I get a damaged envelope in the mail from this guy (the envelope is sealed in a PO envelope saying it was damaged in shipping) with nothing it. I contact the guy and he is totally unwilling to take any responsibility for it....wont even admit his total lack of packaging led to the problem. Then he get ugly and pissy with me saying I might have stole the badge and just claiming it didnt come (even though the envelope he sent is still sealed in the PO envelope)....thats the part that REALLY PISSES ME OFF. This guys sell a bunch of stuff on here and you would think he would man up and take responsibility on this....its only $15 (but that is NOT the point for me!)

So whats right...should I get my money back and he take the loss since it was his fault for such shabby shipping? Or should I take it even though it was in no way my fault? I know I sell A LOT on here and if it was reversed I would refund the buyers money and accept the responsibility for it in a second...but I guess some people dont know what the word integrity means.

If it where you what would you do? Negative feedback? File a grievance with Paypal for item not received? Post his name and the emails back and forth on here so everybody else would think twice before buying from him? Just let it go?

This is what I got:

IMO he should have done a better job packaging but that doesn't make him a bad guy just not the brightest maybe.not the best situation for either of you and the wonderful post office will probably say it was the packaging not the post offices fault. Me personally I would let it go cause it's only $15 and not openly post his name. But if someone asks I would tell them. Quite frankly if I had shipped it that way I'd refund the money.

Like I said its not the $15...its his attitude about it and his total unwillingness to take fault for the lack of any packaging. Like you said its only $15...if I were him my reputation as a seller would be worth a lot more than that.

after getting two of my last 6 packages from ebay with damaged parts im pissed to the point im automatically giving bad feedback anytime something is half assed and sent to me,last part i got was fragile plastic taillight stuffed in a box w/ zero packaging material,it was cracked on both ends,i even sent message telling to pack it well, neg fb for him,it would have been easy to put this part in bubble wrap small envelope and it would have never went through a sorting machine either

You don't know if he ever even put it in there.
He doesn't know if you actually have it or not.

Just split it and call it a day.

No one likes losing money, but when it's something as negligible as $15--(1 hand of blackjack at the casino, 2 shots at the bar, a big lunch at Chipotle)--it's not worth "standing on principal" and getting frustrated or investing this much time in it. Life's too short to be dwelling on little things, I'd just eat the $15 (or $7.50 if you guys decide to split it) and move on to watch some good College Ball. This message is to both of you.

Oh, and if you haven't already, link him to this thread.

just use what tech gave you to express your opinion on the seller and leave negative feedback stating packaging was terrible and call it a day. That negative will hurt him more than anything i think cause i wont buy from anyone with even one negative rating.

Default Shipper's resposibility

As far as I'm concerned, and every item I have ever bought mail order or online, it is the shipper's responsibility to properly pack and ship an item. That item belongs to the shipper until received by the paying customer. I would leave the feedback so that others would be warned, and file a case with paypal.

as a seller, i would give the guy his $15 back. its his own fault he didnt do a better job packaging it. if he woulda taken an extra 30 seconds to properly pack and ship it, he would be +$15....now he shouldnt stiff some guy $15 becuase the part got lost due to terrible packaging techniques. just my $.02

Totally sellers fault. Post his name, post negative feedback. Fkin dummy needs to learn how to ship things properly and stop being cheap about it.

The seller is responsible for packing the item properly.
He needs to A) replace the item or B) provide a refund.

I sell a lot of stuff on boards, eBay and Amazon and I maintain a 100% feedback rating by doing what's right.
I expect the same from others.
