Personally, i think the best bet would be for performance shops and or sponsors of the site to serve as the middle man in the transaction.
The seller can contact the nearest performance shop (site sponsor if need be) and arrange a meeting.
Have the seller bring the item for sale to the shop, or drop the item off at the shop. The shop can take pics and confirm with the buyer if the item is in order (good shape, correct item, etc). They check it for damage, and emails the pics of said item to the buyer. The buyer confirms, and having either previously sent the money to the shop or sending it upon confirmation, the shop hands over the money to the seller and sends out the part to the buyer. This way, there is no bullshit. No buying claiming the item was damaged or not the right part, waiting for the item, etc. The seller cant get stiffed on the money, or lie about when it is shipped, or claim UPS damaged it, etc. The shop can charge a fee, either a percentage, or a set fee, whatever. Nice way to take in some cash, and helps the community big time.

thoughts?

I actually like the idea, now if the shops would go along with it and do a fee like you said for playing middle man it would be nice.

Nice idea, not even close to being realistic though. Just watch out for yourself, think logically and you will never get screwed. It doesnt take a genius Ive never once been screwed on here and ive bought / sold a SUBSTANTIAL amount

I think this would actually be a great idea if we could get it to work. even if the fee was like $10 it would be worth it. And plus the shop would bring in a little more cash from it.

Not going to happen. Shops are busy selling and building their own products. Now they would have to deal with the phone calls to set this up, the shipping?, the scheduling of time, and also an implied warranty of the product since they were part of the transaction.

not only would that be an inconvenience for the shops..but i dont live anywhere close to any sponsors on here, and it would be a HUGE pain in the *** for me to even attempt to do that with something i'm selling...

It wouldnt be an inconvenience to the shop because u would give them a lil bit of money. Now living close to a sponsor I dont either. But for those who do live close to one I think it would be a great Idea.

I dont know about that. Taking time away from people's cars that are paying a lot more than $10 (or whatever fee you want to imagine) just for shipping needs is a bit much to ask. Besides, what if the part does get damaged in shipping? If the shop shipped it, then they are responsible for handling all claims..... sorry, but no amount of $$ would be worth it to me to take time away from current customers to add liability.

Best advice? CYA- before you buy, or even contact the seller, do a search on here. It takes an incredible amount of trust to buy long distance from an individual, so your best bet is to try and stay local.

you guys are acting as if i am suggesting that the shop pulls the techs and mechanics off the shop floor to go mail ****.

seller brings part to shop to verify. Person at shop (whoever, maybe someone hired just for that) verifies condition of part. part is left there at shop with postage paid to go out with shops mail. The shop can have 1 day a week when they do this. It costs them nothing really, the mail is already paid for, and how long does it take to look at a head light, or cam shaft, or bumper? Then they make a commision off the sale.

Just a thought.

If it was a good idea, sponsors would offer it up already.
After almost 10 years not one has - that should tell you something.

A bad thought......Average shop labor is aroud $80.00 bucks an hr.....You're suggesting a fee of around $10.00 per item,,,,,10 items a day $100.00 bucks..Do the math..That's a little more than a hrs labor..You also suggest the shop hire someone for this job..Again, the math doesn't add up...No one will work for less than $15.00 bucks an hr....and I don't want a young kid making $6.oo bucks an hr to look and verify parts.......

Hate to burst the bubble, but like everyone else said, alot more to it than just what you're saying.....
