Default Stay away from Greg Welds!!!

I bought a brand new set of Greg welds design wheels for my car 5 months ago. ( http://www.gregweld.com/wheel_detail...2_star_15.html ) The fronts fit perfect but the back didn't! I contacted Mike over at Greg Welds and told him what the problem was. He told me they would make a revision to the wheel to fit the 2002 f-body without grinding and would be out by the middle of summer. I still haven't gotten my rear rims and now my whole build was waiting on these rear rims to come in. I just ordered a new set of Billet Specialties ( http://www.billetspecialties.com/ite...d=251&pid=1027 ) for my car because now with the death of Mr. Greg Weld (R.I.P.) they are having other problems and don't know when the revision would be finished. So now I'm stuck with the brand new rims that don't fit my car and Mike refused to take them back!! Every time I call for a update (which is about once every2-3 weeks). They tell me the wheel will be out in 2 more weeks and I'll have the first pair. I've missed all the summer events because I didn't want to spend more money on some wheels since they always ensured me that they would be out in 2-3 more weeks. I understand sometimes bugs need to be worked out but please don't string a customer along for 5 months when I was very nice everytime I called and then tell them you don't know when they will be out now and you cannot have your money back!! I hope this problem gets resolved soon and they can atleast make things right!!!

No you are wrong!! When these wheels hit the market I was the first one to have them for the LS1 f-body ( so I was told by Mike) and the word was that they fit without grinding. I ordered mine from summit on 4/19/2008 so I was off by 3 months. when I called Mike to let him know the rims didn't fit he told me they were test fit on the LT1 f-body thats why all the adds said they would fit without grinding. He then asked me to take a video of the wheel not fitting and asked me for messurements which I sent to him. I called Mike about 5 days ago and he told me they were having alot of legal problems since Mr. Greg Weld past away and couldn't tell me when the wheels would be released. My entire build is waiting on these wheels so I can finish the tune with the 28" tall tires. When I asked Mike the other day for a refund he told me that he couldn't since I already mounted the tires on the wheels but until then they were gonna send me a new updated set for the rear and take these back!! When I asked Mike about sending these wheels back he told me no, just hang on to them until they send me the revised set. So tell me, what do I do now?

The guy doesn't deserve to be called an idiot just because he didn't use LS1tech as his pre-purchase research material. He bought something and got screwed over, it's the fault of the Greg Weld company not the customer.

I agree.

Odarabla,
Have you taken up the "return and refund" issue with Summit Racing? Did you not buy the wheels from them? Did they give you any information regarding the fitment? You might have been in contact with the tech staff at Greg Weld racing, but ultimately Summit was your source for the wheels.

Just a thought.....and trying to be constructive.

Well this is a perfect example of why NOT to jump on the newest product out right off the bat. Thats just usually common sense. I always wait at least a year after a part comes out before even considering it. Things like this are far too common in modding. Some parts come out perfect the first time around & others have some tweaking after production starts.

Not saying they shouldn't have either refunded you or got you your wheels by now, but these were talked about MANY times over & all fitment issues have been covered. Most people research the parts they want to buy before dropping the coin, not just buying it b/c it's the hottest new thing.

As long as they were not a special order or special build and NOT mounted or damaged, summit would have been willing to take back the wheels for resell to someone else.

Unless a company is specializing in a particular car application, they may not know what fits best. The only thing they may know is the product might work given the backspace and bolt pattern the customer request. There are many variables for a wheel to fit every application. This is especially important when the diameters are small.

If you wanted direct fit wheels flro your LS1 OEM brakes/calipers/rotors, the only front/rear drag 15" wheels are our Bogarts.

Yes, I tried calling Summit and they told me they couldn't take the wheel back either if the tire had been mounted. I did explain to them that all the info that was out about these wheels explained that they would fit without grinding. Then the guy tells me I should have tried one before I mounted the tires!!

Are you retarded or something? What the hell does common sense have to do with ordering something you want that says it'll fit what you want? Thats like ordering some shoes that say they will fit your size 10 foot and when you get them they were made to fit a size 8 foot. And again please learn how to comprehend what your reading. I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO HAVE THEM FOR THE LS1 F-BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wheel manufactures and vendors will not take back wheels which were mounted. You can't resell a mounted wheel as new! This is standard practice for just about any items purchased, always test the product before you alter or use it. I'm surprized Weld would suggest they would take it back...but by the sounds of it, they aren't either.

My suggestion is to just sell them as used. They will work perfectly fine for someone who has drag brakes on the car. ...though on the other hand, the typical person putting drag brakes on the car wants light wheels as well.

The summit representative may have been misinformed regarding fitment or you may have misunderstood how they would work...I'm sure you could get them to work...you just may have to modify or use spacers and or grind to fit them on your car.

On the other hand, in retrospect, if you were the first to try them, you should have tested it before it was mounted to make sure what they may have suggested does work.

I'll run with the shoe example you provided. Take a manufacture that makes a size 11. Some shoes fit better then others. Some people who fit in 11's need 11.5's or 10.5's. If you ordered an 11 online, used them for a few days and tried to return them...you' probably wouldn't have too much luck with it. If you purchased them and only tested them in your house for a few minutes, you'd have better results exchanging them for another size that may work better.

You obviously sound frustrated. Though someone may have stated something fits, its always in the best interest of all parties to test the products fitment before you get into it too deep.

Odarabla, I really apologize for my harsh response. I was having a horrible morning, I shouldn't have taken it out on forums, again, I apologize. That really sucks about Summit not taking them back, usually here at our shop we will still take them back as long as the rim is not damaged or scratched in any way between mounting and dis mounting. If you want to PM what tires are on them, some pictures, and what your looking to get out of the setup, I can try to sell them here at our shop, as our customers are always looking for various rim and tire setups.

Hopefully the wheel company will do as they've promised... I hate it when this stuff happens, but it happens all the time. I haven't run into it much because I only have money to buy used parts that have already been bolted up

Good luck with this thing... I hope it works out.

I tried grinding the caliper until I blew a few holes in them. I also bought spacers to try and make them work. They just don't fit. You are right about test fitting. I guess I just jump the gun and took there word for them fitting and had the tires mounted. But I don't believe I should have to eat the bullit when they did say they would fit without grinding.. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for apoligizing and it is excepted. I am going to keep the tires and have them mounted on the new wheels I just bought. I would like to get at least $400.00 for just the rims. They are brand new!

Not trying to be cool!! This is what Mike Herzog told me when I called him and let him know the wheels didn't fit!! The first place I called was Summit and the guy on the phone told me that he couldn't take the wheel back because the tire had already been mounted. So I then called Mike @ Greg Welds. Explained what the problem was and he couldn't believe what he was hearing. He told me and I qoute (I cannot believe they don't fit. We test fit these wheels on several f-bodies before having the manufacture build them!! Please don't come on my thread with insults!! If thats what you feel like doing then just hit the little X button at the top of the screen!! Thanks

man i'm with you. if they say the wheels fit, they should fit. like the bogarts, they fit front and back, but did anyone test fit them when they first came out? maybe like 1 out of 10 folks did, maybe...i mean, its not our fault. not everyone is gonna test fit wheels when they get them. buy, mount, bolt'em up.
