Default TSP vs MTI lids. no difference in HP

I was at MTI yesterday getting my car tuned, and I was talking with Colonel. And we were talking about my mods and what not, and I told him I have a TSP lid. So we wanted so see if there was any difference between the MTI lid and the TSP. My car was sitting on the dyno and it pulled 352.9 hp and 371.6 tq with the TSP lid. Jayson went out and got me one of his lids, I pulled mine off and we installed it. and ran the car on the dyno again. With the MTI lid I got 353.3 and 369.2 tq. Both of the runs were through a locked stock converter. So as you can see its too close to matter, a lid is a lid is a lid. Both lids perform really well, the TSP is a little larger but rough on the inside. While the MTI one was so smooth, no rough spots at all. I dont have a scanner but the graph from 3000 to 6000 was right on top of each other. just thought Id let you newbies know

It was funny to see the look on Jayson's face when I "predicted" that his MTI lid would lose 15 rwhp over the TSP lid. HAHAHA! Of course I was just kidding, we already knew what the results would be before the dynos were even performed.

A lid is a lid. Buy the one that you like appearance-wise, or priced right for you.

Good test Drew, maybe the lid debaters can move on now

Ha I doubt that.... it will never end.

The fitment was great for both of the lids BTW

What do you mean by rough on the inside? I have a smoked TSP lid and it is very smooth.

Side note: My smoked lid looks like a different material then the black one.

Drew is talking about the small radius area headed into the MAF, on the lower part of the TSP airbox. It was very lumpy? on that curved section on both sides, where it appears that plastic sections were added. The MTI lid was perfectly smooth on that area. But, these dynos prove that there isn't anything to be gained because of that (or any other lid design).

For the most part, I agree with "a lid is a lid." But I do believe there is a difference (visably noticeable) between smooth lids like the TSP, MTI or Direct Flow and a more angular lid like the SLP lid. I think some HP could be picked up by going to one of the smoother designs over an SLP lid style lid. Anyone disagree?

Not really lumpy as so much excess plastic? kinda looked that way.
I see you point in talking about smoothness of the lid or even the "direction" But it almost negligible. There really can only be so much air pulled through. Just like the 80mm TB, that doesnt matter because the intake is smaller than that, so it doesnt have any affect.

Maybe this post can be permanently pinned to the top of this forum so the "what's the best lid" can be finally put to rest. At least till the next greatest "revolutionary lid design".

352.9 hp and 371.6 tq / 353.3 and 369.2 tq
Nice numbers! Especially being an auto.! Were those corrected? What were your mods when you had it dynoed? Any internals, heads/headwork, nitrous, etc.? Thanks

I was standing around looking at my MTI lid laying on the floor and Drew's TSP lid and I just couldn't resist. Like Tony said, we all knew what the results would be but still, I had to antagonize Jayson a little bit. "C'mon Jayon, don't you want to see how much more power the TSP lid makes than yours? Here's your chance!"

As has been said before, a lid is a lid is a lid. TSP, SLP, MTI, Direct Flow, XYZ or ABC...I don't care which one it is. They make the same power.

The only thing these lids are missing are flux capacitators. Once a sponsor figures how to add them to the lids, man we'll be making 20+RWHP over MTI lids!!

I had asked if you had nitrous because maybe you were spraying a 50 shot or somethin'. I dont see why anyone would put that small of a shot, but hey...who knows. Were the numbers corrected? Im just so curious because it seems high for such few mods and having an auto, but what do I know. I thought my car was a bit above normal pulling 365rwhp with all bolt ons as opposed to you only having most of them, but then again, its a 6-speed. Maybe everyone was just trying to "fill up" my head making me think that my numbers were good.

Damn dude...thats bad azz! Seems that you are one of the few with a freak car! Awesome numbers, get that pully and pump on and youll definately be up there. Then whoever you bump down is going to have to buy them too to get back up there.
